There is an old locked thread (archival from a previous forum version I presume) located http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=18646&KW=Pets&title=pets" rel="nofollow - here where members have posted pics of there pets. Being a very pet friendly guy, in a pet friendly family, I thought it would be nice to re-open a place for you all to show off your hairy (non-homo sapien) friends. I am really curious what sort of company the average proghead keeps.

This is our newest family member, Buster, trying on his new sweater. He loves it, obviously.

This is Buster with his new best friend, Jessica.

This is the old man of the group, Tim.

This is Miss Paddles the 7 toed wonder cat.

This is a pile of fur, the white one is the yet introduced Jimmie.

Squeaky the cat refusing to play guitar. Tongue
My favorite joke is that she is named after that Manson family member and not after her squeaky kitty voice.

A cockroach seems like a minor inconvenience compared to the permanent damage a cocker spaniel could do.

On that note: Bathtime!

Old age is a good way to go.

Several of our cats have been musically named - we've had two cats called Syd, a Roxy, a Siouxsie, an Enya, a (Suzi) Kettles (a character played by Emma Thompson in a TV series called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutti_Frutti_%281987_TV_series%29" rel="nofollow - Tutti Frutti ) and a (Dear) Prudence.

Two were named after F1 racing drivers - Jenson (Button) and (Ukyo) Katayama; one after a town in Leicestershire - Ashby-de-la-Zouche; Spike is obviously from Buffy; Storm after author Storm Constantine; and Mouse is named after the character from the ReBoot tv series.

We do miss the big guy, who died quite a few years back.  This is mid 90s.

You never left food on the counter if you wanted to eat it yourself.  With no effort whatsoever he could walk off with your dinner in a flash.

A lot of ours were musically names too - in addition to Tosca & Dylan (still with us...) we have had a lizard called Tarkus, & cats names after the Zappa Dynasty: Frank, Dweezil, Moon, Diva... all sadly now hunting in the clouds (but they gave us some great years )

Tapfret, I'd like to see some more picture of your menagerie, particularly the 7-toed wonder cat.  Also I find it amusing that your old man cat is named Tim while my old lady cat is named Timmy, we should set them up on a date Tongue

If you have an aversion to pets them it's probably not a good idea.  If your daughter is mature enough to take complete care of the cat then why not?  The big downside to cats is that if they don't use the litter box, the pee is the most horrid thing you will ever smell.  But if you've ever stroked a cat and had it purr at you, you'd know what it's all about.

I know all about cats and dogs. I have owned them so you can't teach me anything.
My daughter is 20 and she would have to buy it and pay for everything. Clean up and feed it etc. It would be in out house though.

Probelms are

1. I am a keen bird watcher and feed birds

2. My wife detests cats

If the cat goes outside it should wear a bell because cats are very efficient at preying on birds, any bird who is a ground feeder will be had, a bell evens the playing field

Bull terriers are awesome dogs, have you ever read any of Jonathan Carroll's books?  He seems to have a fascination with them.

I've heard the name but never read anything from him. Anything you'd recommend?

Hmm, I'm still trying to work my way through his works, but I'd definitely recommend Land of Laughs, it's an excellent book (in my opinion).

Cool, I'll check it out. I could count the number of novels I've actually finished on two hands. I desperately need to read a new book.
