Just noticed that Edgar Froese is in the PROGARCHIVES now! yippy! Also with recent additions of Brian Eno, SFF, Vangelis, Lard Free and other great bands, we are heading towards being the INTERNATIONAL PROGRESSIVE ROCK SITE! I would like to lobby for others! Cluster mid period was great as well as offshoots Eno/Moebius/Roedelius/Plank, Moebius and Plank and Roedelius solos. Conrad Schnitzlers output is mostly avant, experimental and electronic but a few 70's releases are some of the best kosmiche musiks ever made! Hey we dont kick Genesis or Alan Parsons out for going commercial, why should Con be rejected for diving deep! Michael Rother's mostly 70's output was a great breed of instrumental prog along with Manuel Gottsching and Gunter Schickert! Synergy's mostly 70's output was good to great! Larry Fast is a pioneer and his work with Nektar produced some of their best songs as well as with Peter Gabriel. Neuronium's first few albums are very comparable with bands like Tangerine Dream, Ashra and SFF. These guys were pioneers of maturing prog, not the watered down new age that the record companies invented.

How in god's name can an electronic musician, become a prog rocker..............i have a feeling some of you have been outside too long without your medication. I'm sick and tired of hearing about prog, my own feeling is about a third of the music on this site probably just about constitutes prog rock. Rush are/were heavy metal, Radiohead are/were crap, an dthe biggest joke of all have got to be dreamtheatre......still can't stop laughing at their attempts.

Froese is a multi-instrumentalist, not just a synth/keyboard player. You might want to brush up.
Rush are/were heavy metal |
Rush was never a "heavy metal" band. They were a hard rock band that went heavy prog and then melodic prog, and finally back to melodic hard rock. There IS a difference between metal and hard rock.

Be it prog or not, I would recommend Michael Hoenig's departure from the Northern Wasteland and Froese's Epsilon in Malaysian Pale. The former is in the classic TD style, the latter is feast for all mellotron lovers (strings and flutes galore!)

Prog rock is a very fuzzy term, and there are very many sub genres among it. Someone who likes one or more of these sub genres does not necessarily like the others.

Froese is a multi instrumentalist but first and foremost he is an electronic musician, still plays with the greatest electronic band of all time, so tell me why he is prog............sober up and flush the drugs down the toilet.

You mean you don't honestly know why Tangerine Dream/Edgar Froese is prog? That's your problem!!!
Ask yourself this: is Klaus Schulze prog? Wendy Carlos? Roger Powell? Larry Fast? Yes, they recorded exclusively on synthesizers, but how many people were doing what they were doing circa the late 1960s through the early-to-mid 1970s? After that, synthesists were more plentiful.
I think the real issue simply lies with what you consider to be "prog."
Over & out.

try in the 70's Conrad Schnitzler's Ballet Statique or in the 80s, Johannes Schmoelling's Wuivend Reit or in the 90's Steve Jolliffe's Zanzi for a breath of fresh air from the other TD alumni!

I'm liking Johannes' latest album, Recycle Or Die, a lot more than Wuivend Reit or WO or SNW. Get it if you already haven't. It shouldn't be expensive. Picked mine up locally for $14.

Prog is too often used on any music that is in non-mainstream, esp in UK and Europe. What i believe to be prog definitely does not include any of the electronic music pioneers from the 60'and 70's. While they moved musical barreirs with almost every new album, progressive??, not for me, they were more experimental and less linnear then the real prog rock bands. But, that doesn't mean they were not all great musuicians....except Larry Fast......poor poor poor.

Sounds like you maybe have a good definition for NEO-PROG and its roots!
