four bands from different countries that plays modern 90s prog that three of them have strong ties to alternative music rock scene, don't know much about Anekdoten or if they have alternative rock roots or links

four of the leading modern prog, new prog bands in their country

good luck

PS!!! IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ONE MIGHT HAVE LISTEND TO 3 out of 4  BANDS  and know them well, I know less about Anekdoten so I can not vote in this poll myself Angry

Of these four, I haven't heard Anekdoten so I won't vote ... but I think I prefer Motorpsycho to Porcupine Tree by a hair, despite having heard only one MP album vs. 4 PT albums. Tool didn't do a whole lot for me but I still enjoy them every once in a while.

I still don't know Anekdoten well enough yet (though I've been recommended them by several people and got specific album recommendations from Mellotron Storm, who I'm sure will be here soon enough to vote).  What I've heard of them I've liked more than what I've heard from the others, though.  As far as PT goes, if I could choose early PT only (up to but not including In Absentia Tongue) they would probably be second, since I really like The Sky Moves Sideways.  As it is, Tool is probably second, and since I haven't really enjoyed most Motorpsycho I've heard they'd probably pull last. No vote though, since I still don't know Anekdoten well enough (or Motorpsycho really).

There was a problem a while back with multiple accounts solely for the trivial purpose of poll manipulation, so new members must have 50 forums posts before they can vote

Anekdoten and Porcupine Tree are pretty much crossing the finish line at the same time.
Tool is great but a distant third while Motorpsycho hasn't left the starting line yet.Wink
I chose Anekdoten tonight 'cause i don't think they'll get many votes.

I don't meet the requirements, so no vote. Probably I would hesitate for a long time and then vote PT just ahead of Anekdoten.

Rather indifferent to Tool but very fond of the three others.

So,
Early PT >= Anekdoten > Motorpsycho >= later PT >>>>>> Tool

Anekdoten are currently in my car system, but I still prefer PT. Never been a Tool fan but I know them. I don't kn ow Motorpsycho at all, but the poll says 3 on 4.

Choosing between Tool and PT is one of the hardest thing I had to do in my life... If only Tool were more consistent with their releases it would make it easier to me... Anekdoten I started to listen like two weeks ago and they had amaze me so far, great great band... Motorpsycho's Heavy Metal Fruit is ok, but that's all....

So PT for me this time

Very different and dissimilar bands. It's too hard to compare them. Porcupine Tree is my favorite of them.

Wow.....I never though PT would be winning this poll. I honestly don't think they are that  'innovative' at all and not as progressive sometimes as many other bands. But they are still one of my favorites.
Never cared for Tool but they certainly can be innovative at times.
Anekdoten are certainly progressive but innovative...? Not sure on that either.
And I have only heard a few Motorpsycho albums but they have really moved through some interesting progressive styles and The Unicorn lp is certainly innovative imho......my vote goes to Motorspycho for keeping it fresh and not being afraid to keep movng into new and different territory.

Porcupine Tree (who have only superficial ties to "alternative") then Anekdoten (who have none whatsoever)

I like them all, but I'll vote for Porcupine Tree.
