The organisers of Summer's End have teamed up with the Classic Rock Society to present a new festival, Fused, taking place in Lydney, Gloucestershire, on April 1, 2 & 3.

Fused brings together twelve of the UK and Europe's finest Progressive Metal and Symphonic Rock bands. The full festival line-up features german metal legends Vanden Plas, Threshold the UK's best prog metal band, dutch goth metallers Kingfisher Sky, Toxic Smile (DE), Hanging Doll (UK), To-Mera (UK), Haken (UK), Day Six (NL), Loreweaver (IT), After-Math (UK), Winter in Eden (UK) and Hookah the Fuzz (UK).

The festival promises three days of superb rock music, excellent musicianship and a terrific, intimate atmosphere in the 400 capacity Lydney Town Hall.

Getting Vanden Plas to the UK is a coup in itself. To get them, Threshold, Kingfisher Sky and the rest of this fabulous line-up into this small, rural venue is extraordinary!

The Summers End Festival, which will take place at Lydney Town Hall on October 7, 8, 9 2011, is pleased to announce the first two bands to take the stage this year.

We are thrilled that Arena will headline the Saturday night of the Festival.  The band will need no introduction to most prog fans, and with Messrs Pointer, Nolan, Mitchell and Salmon now joined by the superb Paul Manzi on lead vocals and a new album in the works, this year will see the band active once more.  This will be a rare chance to see the band live in the UK in 2011.

Following the hugely successful appearance of Phideaux in 2010, we are delighted to announce that we have another US band this year, the terrific K2.  The brainchild of bassist Ken Jaquess, the band also boasts the talents of Spock’s Beard’s much-loved Ryo Okumoto on keyboards plus new members Josh Gleason (vocals) and Karl Johnson (guitar), who all perform on the band’s excellent second album “Black Garden” released last year.

Don’t forget our Sister Festival FUSED – prog and symphonic metal – taking place at Lydney on April 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Early booking is recommended!  Full details at: http://www.fusedfestival.co.uk/" rel="nofollow - www.fusedfestival.co.uk

Erm it's actually John Jowitt now unless they switched again. Might want to correct that as to not disappoint the many Ian Salmon fans that might be coming.

A little flurry of news about the Summers End Festival , which takes place on 7th, 8th and 9th October at Lydney Town Hall, Gloucestershire

Unfortunately, due to a serious illness to a member of bassist Ken Jaquess’ immediate family, K2  have had to withdraw from this year’s festival.  We wish Ken and his family well and have agreed that they will play in 2012.  Their replacements are the remarkable Day Six from Holland.  Having stolen the show at the Fused Festival in Lydney in April this year, we knew that we would have to bring them back for Summers End at some point, and K2’s unfortunate withdrawal, for a year at least, has give us that opportunity.  You will not be disappointed.

To complete or line up we are delighted to welcome Declan Burke and band to open the Friday night of the festival.  Dec is no stranger to the festival having already played with Darwin’s Radio and Frost, so the opening slot is in safe hands!

Although sad news re K2, I totally agree family must come first and they agreeing to come in 2012 is good news.
I am however concerned that not enough time will be available for all the artiists on Friday evening! Why 3 acts? the other nights only have 2 which gives the acts concerned enough time to do full shows. I'm just concerned.
I'm sorry to gripe about this as the festival is so good. I am looking forward to the festival enormously and wish both Huw and Lambsie all the best for what promises to be another excellent festival

Running a festival is never easy, and we are sorry to announce a couple of pieces of bad news with just 10 days to go!

Firstly, it is with huge regret that we announce that Amplifier will not now be playing the festival.  This is as a result of irresolvable technical issues between the Festival and the band.  We apologise to all those looking forward to seeing them, and wish the band every success for the future.  Holders of Friday evening tickets only have been contacted separately.

Secondly, Sunchild will not now be able to play due to the refusal of visas for some of the band.  We know that the guys are as gutted as we are that they cannot play, so we are happy to announce that they will be joining us in 2012, visa’s permitting!

In the meantime, we are very pleased to announce that Antony Kalugin of Sunchild, who is still able to make the Festival, will play a special acoustic set on Friday night with something of a legendary guest, the amazing John Sloman of Lonestar and Uriah Heep fame.  This unique collaboration will hopefully help compensate fans for the loss of both bands.

In their Sunday slot we are thrilled to announce that Credo have agreed to play the Festival at short notice.  The band have received some superb reviews for their third album “Against Reason” and have combined that with some amazing live shows in 2011. We welcome them back after their wonderful set way back in 2006!

What is this band Break that is playing several times?

Ermm

On a serious note, and I've never been to a festival like this, but where is there such a long break between the final two bands, when there was a break just before?  Just wondering!

Frank

Set up and sound check time. This festival does its best to give each band top notch sound, particularly the evening acts, plus since delays at some point during the day are expected those breaks can easily be cut down preventing the festival running over the curfew.

Oh, and Unto Us have pulled out as singer Huw as contracted a chest infection and cant sing, so Concrete Lake, band of Tangent guitarist Luke Machin, are taking over the Sunday opening slot.

Sleeper's will probably be a better review than mine as I was only there for the Saturday and Sundaybut I'll give my opinion anyway.

Invertigo were the first band on that I saw and I was very impressed by the music.Very melodic and may have even bought their cd if it wasn't for it being my first day. I thought the vocalist wasn't as good as the music deserved but he did look like Rafa Benitez and it was only a minor problem.

Casual Silence played some really good songs and the vocalist had a great voice on him.I was surprised that he announced they were splitting up after Summer's End and I'll be looking to find some of their back catalogue.

Day SIx  I wasn't really looking forward to from what I'd heard other people say about them but, after a while,I started to enjoy them for what they were.At tmes frenetic guitar playing and some serious gurning from the vocalist/guitarist with a few quieter moments thrown in.

I really enjoyed The Tangent and they were the highlight of the day for me.I'd not heard too much  of  them before(only Down and Out In Paris) and I was really impressd with the sound and the playing so much,I bought my first cd of the weekend in their latest "Comm"

I was a little disappointed in Arena,as they were the band I was looking forward to most on the Saturday.I can't put my finger on why because they did put on a good show.Maybe I'd built them up too much.I did buy Pepper's Ghost though.

Sunday started with Concrete Lake who,for me,were the surprise package of the weekend. Some great prog with some well written and well crafted songs, heavy in places but shifting quite easily into more gentle and melodic sections in most of their songs.I'll be keeping a look out for these guys, who are supposed to be going into the studio in the New Year.Oh.... and the whole band seemed to be on springs as they bounced up and down alot.

Credo were excellent and a track they played called "Insane" persuaded me to buy "Against Reason ".They reminded me of Marilion in places but that's no bad thing. If you get the chance to watch them on their next tour, you should go.

Headspace weren't my cup of tea,I'm afraid, and I left after 20 minutes to grab some food in a pub somewhere, but what I heard sounded ok

Magenta were bloody excellent and my highlight of the weekend. Christina's voice reminds me of Annie Haslam and they didn't put a foot wrong.

Caravan was a really great end to the proceedings. It was the first time I've seen them live and I'd go again. There was good banter between the band and they seemed to be really enjoying themselves up there which always makes for a good gig, imo.

That's my first review and it may not be a good review and I'll probably neeed a lot more experience of writing them before you get a good one,but you have to start somewhereBeer

I bought Cahmeleon as well and I think it might be their best album. Home I find to be their weekest and I was glad they didnt play much from that album.

I'd heard "Home" and "Seven" once and was unsure which of them to buy so I took advice off Lambsie and Bought "Home".  After 2 listens,I'm very impressed with it
