I like both albums a lot.  Who Are You is more consistent, yet Presence has Achilles Last Stand, which just blazes for its entire ten minute duration.  The rest of the album is good as well, but this one track stands above them all.  Gotta go with the mightly Led Zeppelin.

Presence.

"Nobody's Fault But Mine" is one great bluesy tune.

Hi,

Both albums deserve to be in our collections.

I would say, however, that "Who Are You" is much more important as it is the pinacle of what The Who had done by that time, and it closed the book beautifully. And the whole album is magnificent, and deserves all the expletives of excellent that we can think of.

I like Presence, and it was an album I bought amidst many people at the station and friends, saying that it was not that good an album ... but the fans that liked Stairway to Hooplah, are simply not capable of appreciating that band pushing the envelope. And check out "It's Gonna Get Loud" when Jimmy explains "Achilles Last Stand" ... which was ... Led Zeppelin's last stand.

Presence. Always loved that one. Found it on a discount rack at a CD and have loved it ever since.

Presence, an easy one as that is my fave Zep album, mainly because of Achilles Last Stand which is my fave Zep track. Cool

If you can ever hear the energy and the strength of the early boots from LZ, specially the series around LA's shows during Bonzo's birthday (there are 3 of those), in the end, Presence was very nice ... but not a total experience that the band was and had been for the few that ever got to see them. It makes the power and strength in Achilles, come alive all the time, and stay there ... for the whole concert.

You can not see this in the video, because the shows used are not as great, and Jimmy messed up with the original boots in How the West Was Won.

Who Are You is the stronger album overall, so it gets my vote. Presence has a couple of outstanding tracks - Nobody's Fault and Achilles Last Stand - but otherwise is pretty unmemorable.

Hmmm...I don't think Who Are You is "the pinnacle of what The Who had done by that time"; on the contrary, both Who By Numbers and Who Are You are representative of The Who in decline after three masterpieces, Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia. I just can't get too worked up over Who Are You.

Presence shows an unoriginal band running out of ideas, so there is really no base for comparison. The Zep is the greatest cover band in history. I just cannot respect them for their plagiarism.
