That's apparently the tracklist for the special edition. The regular edition is one CD (with two of the songs from the second CD of the special edition included on the regular tracklist). I knew they were releasing a new album, but I didn't know the details. Their last albums was pretty great so I'm looking forward to hearing this one!

| I will not listen to the album if Russell Allen decides to growl his way through it. The dude has such an amazing vocal range, but I hate it when he wastes it on trying to sound dark and sinister. Judging by the cover of the album and the titles of the songs, I'm suspecting that this might be the case. I'm so tired of this recent trend of power/progressive metal bands trying to sound morose when previously they actually made uplifting music that sold just as well, if not better. |

I've always loved that about Symphony X though. The ability he has to both growl and sing with an incredible range. I agree though that the "angry" mood with some bands now a days is totally necessary, but I don't think they fall into that category. |

| I like Allen's ability to switch back and forth between growls and clean vocals, because the growls aren't bad in themselves and the combination of the two works well sometimes. I hate it when he just growls the whole time, though, like he did for most of Paradise Lost; he has a great voice when he does sing, and it seems like he's just wasting it. |

Which part of "Iconoclast" aren't you getting? I'm quite happy with their tendency to gravitate towards mythology - that's what Romeo is good at as far as songwriting/inspiration are concerned, and their level of cheesiness is at least an order of magnitude below Rhapsody. Anyone given this a listen? The reviews Ive seen are a little mixed, though the PA ones are generally favorable. I wasn't sure If I was going to check this out, but now I will. I picked it up already, our record store has it now Darkshade It's not technically a double album....it's how Symph X wanted it but the label wanted them to make it a double, damn b*****ds robbing even more $ But yeah I've listened to it and it is clearly Symph X but a tad different. Really, if you know Paradise Lost it's a progression from there. Not a 5 star but maybe a 4 star I'd say! Edit: Oh so yeah buy the double album. I never pay the extra just to get some bonuses/remixes/behind the scenes crap like that but this is actual intended music so its worth it! |

That's what I noticed, that they wanted it to be a double album. I'm not the biggest Symphony X fan, so if that weren't the case I would get the single edition. Yes sir! Hell even I was about to get the single edition, why pay extra for worthless crap? It took my bro showing me what the band said that convinced me to buy the double, was only a little more anyway. |

Right, and it's not like the double is the first disc with a bonus disc. The tracklisting is different for the double album, meaning that it's a full double album (and concept album which I only found out about today)

Indeed. And I didn't know it was a concept album! Though I kinda guessed there was a central theme with the whole "mechanical" style artwork and the songs like Dehumanize (which is epic) b*****ds of the Machine, Electric Messiah. All that jazz |

I can't imagine my record store having this, so I'll get it from Amazon, but it says it isn't released til the 21st... I hope it's good and not like Kamelot's last album which was advertised as "Heavy as f***" and "their best yet" but replaced all creativity with the old "angry" mood. It seems like when bands decide to make an album heavier, it just sounds the same. |

Yeah mine is awesome they never hold things until the official release date. Well that's for you to decide, I'd say definitively Iconoclast is still Symph X without doubt, so it is "more" metal but as I'm sure you will, actually listen to it and don't just go with what you hear I was a little freaked out when they signed to Nuclear Blast and starting to make it more "big" but still an awesome album! |

Yeah. From what I've heard, it's like Paradise Lost but even heavier, and it's gotten good reviews so I'm looking forward to it. I would imagine they have quite a bit of creative control though otherwise they wouldn't have signed. |

Indeed. Like I said, progression. Imagine Paradise Lost but more so, yet still their sound. It is less progressive than ever, it's more subtle instead of outright but epic nonetheless. Probably, but still what hardcore fan can't be a bit worried upon hearing the band is changing to new, big time label? |
