Hello All,
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Omar Rogriguez-Lopez's (of Mars Volta fame) latest solo works.  I am a big fan of The Mars Volta also.  I was wondering what people's opinions were on him as a musician and all his work to date

Huge Volta fan, and i have 2 of his solo work.
I enjoy both Xenophanez and Los Sueños De Un Higado. But Xenophanez is my favorite of the two.
Musican wise, i love him too. Very odd style and wonderful use of effects.

Love the Volta, every little bit of it.
Havent spend that much time with the solo's, Cryptomnesia i found a bit hard to get into, havent given it the time it deserves though. Xenophanes is fine. Those are the only once i know.

NB: Did you check out his punk era in At the Drive In, very diffrent, but still got some golden moments.

Omar is, in my opinion, one of the premiere artists of modern rock.
He's a genius composer and guitarist. Mars Volta is one of my favorite bands and his solo outings are quite good as well.

I've also been recently getting into Omar's solo works - in my mind he is one of the top creative forces in the modern "progressive" scene.

Just listen to their free album (that opne with John Frusciante). Nice material, but not outstanding.

The album with Frisciante isn't his best. I'm not surprized. Dead

Some of his stuff is far too self-indulgent, but he is an innovator.

I love The Mars Volt. I agree with every post above me 100%. I would love to see Cedric do a cover of Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin. And if Omar did guitar, the song's already very explosive but he would take it... TO THE MAX!

Also, the track, Se Dice Bistonte, No Bufalo from his solo album, Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo is just such an amazing track to me. Well, all of The Mars Volta's stuff is. But that is the one song form his solo career I'm in love with.

I loved his album with Frusciante and of course I dig the Mars Volta.
