Which one of these bands do y'all prefer?  I think for me, it depends on the kind of mood I'm in.  Right now, I prefer Beardfish, though, once the new Volta album comes out, this will probably change.

Wow. I know its early but I expected this to be a bit closer.

The Mars Volta for me. Even though their most recent albums have been terrible to average at best, their first two are quite excellent and are way better than anything I've heard from Beardfish. (Which is less than what I know from TMV so grain of salt perhaps)

The Mars Volta is a band that really blows me away. Like mentioned above the "organized chaos" is something i've come to love.

I also only like Mammoth and Destined Solitaire from Beardfish, while i enjoy all of The Mars Volta's albums.

It's true.  They don't have that much in common.  I just thought it would be an interesting matchup.

You did a poll just like this, with the only reason that both albums were from Heavy Prog. You were quite surprised when people asked what they have to do with each other LOL

If you´ve read back polls created by mine, you can always find any (though little) relationship between single poll options. If exceptionally not, then this propriate poll was meant only as funny.

Both ECLECTIC! Haha, though TMV is more inventive for me, funny that I just listened to the entirerty of Frances The Mute in my room, always a blast, though listen to it few times, it's looooooong.

TMV is kind of bad IMO, being Amputechture and Bedlan Goliath the only albums by them I enjoy under cirtain cirtunstances (they aren't albums I can listen all the time). So it is the bearded fish.

I only like one album by each band, but I choose TMV as it is actually original, unlike Beardfish who rely on retro sounds and instruments to make their music.

Beardfish for sure.  I'm just getting into them as well, but I'm loving what I hear and honestly, I just can't get into TMV.  I usually like different and unique vocalists, but I just get annoyed by the vocals in TMV.

They have almost nothing alike :p

Besides that, I prefer Beardfish, as every release of theirs is solid, and a few of their releases are masterpieces.

Mars Volta has Deloused as their masterpiece and Frances as a great album.

Random electronic f**kdicking totally ruined the flow of Frances if you ask me...

Now that I've listened to both Frances The Mute and De-Loused, I for sure have to give this one to Beardfish.  While the quieter moments on the two aforementioned albums are alright, the music is just too bombastic for me to enjoy and a lot of the times the music doesn't seem to really go anywhere.  I don't know, maybe I'm just deaf.

Mars Volta all the way. Frances the Mute is one of the most unique and creative albums of all time. Beardfish is alright but a little derivative. I'm sure they have a much better live sound then TMV though.

I like both bands. I choose The Mars Volta mostly because I've heard their entire discography and have only heard two beadfish albums, both sleeping in traffics. I love what I've heard by both bands, but i have to say I really enjoy everything I've heard from TMV.

How can anyone not find TMV vocals annoying... Anyway I go for Beardfish, solid, warm-sounding stuff.

I love The Mars Volta, but Beardfish is in my top 5 favorite prog acts of all time, and Rikard Sjoblom is probably in my top three favorite vocalists with Jon Anderson and Peter Gabriel. So the choice was easy for me.

TMV needs more of a retro sound to win polls obviously.

TMV is prolly my favorite band right now, surpassing even Rush. I find all their albums masterful with their own identity.
Beardfish are great too, Destined Solitaire is one of my favorite albums ever. Though i don't seem to have the same love for their more quirky side of their music. Part 1 is better than Part 2 imo.

Sorry, my bad. Embarrassed Could of sworn I read that as 27 votes, instead of 37. Earlier today though, they had below 30 votes, and I remember when this poll was originally made and Beardfish were winning my a landslide. Smile I don't know, both bands are great though.

Yeah, I completely understand why a fair amount would prefer Beardfish. They definitely have a more friendlier, 70's influenced sound that is quite welcomed. If it's the voice for TMV, yeah, Cedric's voice is certainly unique - certainly not for everyone. Their frantic, dissonant sound might be another factor, but I love it of course. Thumbs Up

Thanks Austin. Smile You need to write more reviews. Your review for Emrpos was really well written, excellent use of vocabulary and a great overview of all the songs. I love the album cover as well - one of my all time favourites really. I was going to put Tony Banks in or something, but I was tempted for RC. I'll most likely change it in a couple days anyways.
