Well these are two phenomenally talented instrumental prog metal bands IMO. What's your opinion?

I'll have to go with Liquid Tension Experiment, their melodies are better (that's debatable) in my opinion.  Although both are great. Approve

I can't vote yet... Violin

LTE.

I find Planet X rather boring. I lose interest halfway through the couple of CDs I have. LTE 2 is the better of the two IMO.

Going with LTE because of Tony Levin. A legend of modern music

Both are pretty much equal in terms of technical ability, but LTE has far more interesting songs.

Exactly the way I feel. Three Planet X songs in a row are great, but once that fourth one creeps in things go downhill fast.

BTW when you throw in the deplorable Liquid Trio studio album, Planet X has been much more consistent with three solid studio and one live releases

Consistent with making me fall asleep. Tongue

^ hmm, except LTE's first record is a mixed bag to say the least, PX's first three are all consistently outstanding if a bit samey

Plant X is tough for me, I prefer LTE.....although I prefer O.S.I. between all three (probably another thread)

Yeah OSI is an awesome band but I wanted this poll to have a consistent theme by pitting two instrumental prog metal bands against each other. Incidentally, my favorite bands in that genre are Animals as Leaders and Amogh Symphony but LTE and Planet X are still awesome.

Actually they are very different bands when it comes to compositions and philosophy of writing music. LTE is definitely more versatile. Basically a dream team of prog for me... So with all my respect for Planet X I must vote for LTE.

Planet X by far.
They know when to stop soloing and create better atmospheres.

voting like equally... which is relative of course...  I'll take a Willie Nelson album over either 7 days a week.. and twice today. Poor Raff.. my turn with the stereo comes next.
