| Phantasmagoria is easily my favourite of theirs - it's the album where everything finally clicked, combining a good strong set of songs (I thought the selection on Second Album were a little weak) with decent production values (the sound quality on their first album is pretty awful on most of the versions I've heard). First album is also pretty decent if you can get past the shoddy production, as is Air Cut. |

There was quite awhile there when I was only familiar with and knew about #1, #2, Phantasmagoria, and Midnight Wire. Took me a long time to warm up to the last one. When I first got it Pipe Of Dreams was the only track I liked. Then I discovered Air Cut while browsing used records. My latest "lost" album is Love Child, which is rather good too. The two live albums (I think there are only two) are worth getting, particularly if you cringe at the sound quality of the first album as they both have tracks from that one. Airborne and Midnight Wire are straight at the bottom of my list. Non essential, though I do have them and did get MW on CD. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I've only got four albums and one DVD (Beat Club performance circa 1972). The DVD is the one that I put on the most. Sonja is a very comely lass

Got a few Curved Air albums - Second Album is best IMHO. I facebooked Sonja Kristina and she was really nice to me. Lovely lady, gorgeous voice. -------------

The same as you. Debut and fourth album are great as well. Over and Above might be my favorite track. Amazingly complex stuff from a group that never was about being complex. Sonia's a really underrated vocalist. Lovely tone. -------------

I think what I like about it is that she's more than willing to sing in a mid-60s "chanteuse" style if the song demands it, which is a refreshing change from rock vocalists trying desperately to keep up to date with each other. Might have been a bit unfashionable at the time but it certainly sets her apart from female vocalists in other mid-tier prog bands of the time like Affinity or Catapilla, who tended to want to sound like Grace Slick or Janis Joplin.
