From the band's website:

[07/19/2011]

Haken announce track titles for album 2!
Haken hope to release their 2nd album as an exclusive for those attending their performance at ProgPower USA in Atlanta on Saturday 17th September, with a general release planned for early October to be confirmed. Although the recording process is still underway, both band and label are confident that the cogs are turning at the right pace to make all this possible. For now, Haken proudly announce the track titles for their 2nd concept album, Visions.
1. Premonition
2. Nocturnal Conspiracy
3. Insomnia
4. The Mind's Eye
5. Portals
6. Shapeshifter
7. Deathless
8. Visions
Ross Jennings ensures: "We are confident this album will not disappoint fans of Aquarius. As well as pulling some signature stunts, we are also trying to raise the bar with our compositions, and as individual players..."
...Pure anticipation!

I've heard them play Nocturnal Conspiracy live, its better than anything on Aquarius so I have high hopes for this album.

Oh no, it's going to be a major w**kfest.

I quite enjoyed Aquarius, but I wish they didn't try to sound like Dream Theater.

Sky Architect were way to quicky with their followup release and failed to impress me as much as on their debut. Haken's debut is good butfar from excellent, let's hope that they can reverse Sky Architect's progression for me!

Admitedly it was an early version as I heard it at the start of April and it was still called Conspiracy then, but it was brilliant and I hope they havnt changed it much.

would you prefer that their compositions were rubbish and that they couldn't play their instruments then?

Judging from the quality of Nocturnal Conspiracy and Insomnia, which were played live at Night of the Prog in July, this should be really, really good:

1. Premonition - 4:10
2. Nocturnal Conspiracy - 13:08
3. Insomnia - 6:06
4. The Mind's Eye - 4:05
5. Portals - 5:27
6. Shapeshifter - 8:08
7. Deathless - 8:04
8. Visions - 22:25

The US release has been announced for October 25. If you want it earlier, you'll have to attend one of Haken's September live gigs, either at ProgPower USA in Atlanta or at the Generation Prog Festival in Nürnberg, Germany. Big smile

Oh yeah: In addition to the 22 minute title track, songs no. 4, 5 and 6 are connected, creating a ~18 minute suite. Big smile

Haken released this video with some snippets of songs off of the new album:

I think it sounds fine, but I just can't get over how similar it sounds to Aquarius.  Of course, you expect the same band to sound like itself, but the structure of the songs seems to have no variety relative to its predecessor.  I hope I'm wrong and that these were poorly selected excerpts, but that was the overwhelming impression I got.

Sounds great to me! Some excellent stuff there!

Question though... how can you establish that the structures are too similar from exerts?

I still don't know how this isn't in progressive metal . . . .

Sounds distinctly non-metal to me. There just something about it.

Anyway - this doesn't seem as strong as Aquarius from what I've heard.

It sounds great listening to the samples -

Is the entire album streamed somewhere for review?

I might contact the artist to find out.
