Just watched Highlander (again) and was reminded that although I'm not a big Queen fan, their songs used in that film are excellent and very poignant.

So, I nominate "Who Wants To Live Forever" by Queen.

A brilliant rock track that really strikes a chord with me (sad man me genuinely wants to live forever) and works so well in the film itself.

Never been able to sit through that film despite the great soundtrack Snowy!

Not many films contain Prog music but Rush can be heard in "Small Soldiers" (Tom Sawyer)

Thats right, but isn't it a remix version?

How about "The Sound Of Silence" (or any song) from "The Graduate?

Well, I always loved Brand New Day from The Wiz. It works extremely well in the movie. Especially with the images of slaves being liberated.

I personally like Cousin Kevin off of The Who's Tommy film. It really does justice to the album version.

I must agree with snob dog here, I think Flash is an overlooked Gem of progressive post punk Queen, not a very good album on the whole, but a lot of good moments through the film are carried by the music. (Flash theme, attack of the hawkmen, football fight, the hero) great album.

Also the sound of music has a great soundtrack (do a dear, a female dear)

Man of constant sorrows -  Coen brothers movie 'O'brother Where Art Thou'

The Sirens song wasn't bad either

(Movie soundtrack - Gabriels Oboe from The Mission by Ennio Morricone is sublime and Theme from On Golden Pond)

and wasn't Bohemian Rhapsody in either Waynes World or Bill and Teds excellent adventures?

^ Yeah, the man of constant sorrow is a great track. Also, every song by Jon Brion in "The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" are great.

Gary Jules' cover version of 'Mad World' worked really well in Donnie Darko.

And of course Goblin's soundtracks to 'Deep Red' and 'Suspiria' were great.

Well, there are many soundtracks I love, there are 2 of them I remember at the moment:

1. CLANNAD's "Legend" - soundtrack to the TV series "Robin Of Sherwood", especially beautiful song "Robin (the hooded man)"...  Clannad is one of my favourite folk/ambient/new age bands

2. Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" that appears in "Exorcist"

You beat me to the punch. What an awesome remake. i have been tempted to buy the Gary Jules cd, but am more than a little afraid fearing that it will be the only decent song on the whole thing and, well, it isn't prog.

I actually agree...the Flash Gordon soundtrack is an overlooked gem.  An interesting turn for Queen to be sure, doing a mostly instrumental album, but for me anyway, it works.  Also, Veteran of the Psychic Wars is also a very good choice.  One of my favorite BOC tracks.  The Pink Floyd album Obscured by Clouds was an incredible album and was the soundtrack to some film or other, which I obviously have never seen.  O.k. this probably makes me a geek, and these aren't prog, but I like the Doctor Who theme, and the soundtracks to the six Star Wars movies.

Oh, wow, I almost forgot Who Wants to Live Forever, until I saw it posted above.  Another great tune.  The whole soundtrack of Highlander was awesome.  By the way, I want to live forever too.  But not by being frozen at the moment of death.  I would personally like to skip the whole death thing altogether.  And who cares if love must die.

Vote number three for Gary Jules's "Mad World"; great cover version, even greater film.

Although it's not my favorite Doors track, using 'The End' in "Apocalypse Now" was an inspired choice.

I believe Clockwork orange's sountrack is one of the (multiple) reasons why the movie is so good.

Not too long ago, I watched 'Friday Night Lights' (something like that, a football film anyway) And I couldn't believe it, there was some Explosion in the sky from 'The Earth is not a cold dead place' album during the whole movie!

Yeah me too, I find it kinda funny, I find it kind of sad, you know what I mean..?

But frankly it's sh!t!! IMO.. I'd rather have the Tears for Fears version any day.

..and that was bad enough..

The theme from Dead Man by Neil Young is AMAZING. The whole soundtrack for the film has basically just one distorted guitar repeating the same things, but its very effective.

Gary Jules 'Mad World' for me as well (4th vote??!)

'Self Preservation Society' at the end of the Italian Job

'One More Kiss Dear' - Vangelis/Peter Skellern (Blade Runner)

Not really favourite songs, but the only ones I can think of that I like in films I've seen.I can't think of any prog songs that have been used in films at all, just instrumental stuff (TD,Oldfield,Vangelis etc).
