Mamaleek are two brothers from San Francisco, playing a unique style of post-black metal. Nearly all of their songs are named after spirituals from North America's slavery era, and some of them are straight-up rearrangements or adaptations. I love these guys, and I truly don't know where to begin in describing their sound. Their foundation is in black metal, but over the course of their three albums, they've incorporated shoegaze, noise, jazz, and world fusion into their sonic palette. Their first two albums (now out-of-print) were more decidedly low-fi, whereas they're a bit more polished for their third LP, "Kurdaitcha," which came out back in March. Unfortunately, there's only one Youtube video that represents their first record, so I'd be happy to upload it for any interested mods.

From some very quick peaks this sounds like an artist where the 'post' tag is more then the usual fad. They seem to get something really intriguing going on that Kurdaitcha album.

We will evaluate the band based on that album, the older stuff sounds too much like regular Black Metal.

No problem, I believe the latest album  would be enough for evaluation.

Hope you liked what you heard! I can assure you, their earlier two albums are anything but regular black metal. I'd be happy to upload them as they're out-of-print; even if Mamaleek is approved by the moderators based on "Kurdaitcha" alone, it's still great music that should be heard!

thanks Gordy,
The problem with the old albums might be the low-fi sound rather then the music, it puts the band too much in the black metal corner. If "Kurdaitcha" doesn't 'make' it we'll sure have a taste of the older stuff anyway.

It's been a few years since I suggested this fascinating group, and they've since digitised their discography and put it on bandcamp. They've also released an EP and a new LP just days ago. Could PA give these guys another chance for evaluation? I insist upon their worthiness.

Sorry, other than ambient/noise/drone I cannot hear much progressive rock/metal here.
