Why is Meat Loaf not in the Prog Archives. Shouldn`t he be in Prog-related. Bat out of Hell was a pretty prog track so was Paradise and I would do anything for love. Forum, What do you think

I think the Loaf has been discussed.. off and on, from time to time, here and there

I think overdramatic and theatrical rock is more like it. I actually like Bat out of Hell, but I hear no prog rock tendencies on that record.

What do I think? I think yellow text on a white background is the scourge of humanity.

I could care less. Bat out of Hell is one of my favorite records. It's almost a damned concept album, really. It's got ten minute long songs and all sorts of spoken word weirdness, but it's primarily wagnerian superpomp theater pop with lots of cool rock and operatic elements tossed in - nods to 1950's dowop and shake yer leg woohoo!
Love it to death, but he's not going to be added anytime soon. Hey, we've still got Tom Waits and Stevie Wonder to contend with! ARGH! Songs in the Key of Life is one of the most progressive albums I can think of, and it'll never be added. Oh well.

well Stevie isn't rock, as much as I love him

Don't let your meat loaf.

I love Meat Loaf, I've got six of his albums, yet I'd never expect to see him here.

Oh come now. Surely you've written your name in the snow before.

In probably the N° 1 fan of the Meat, but still believe he shouldn't be here.
He has been suggested several times, but always rejected.

Personally I've always felt he is a glaring omission from the site. His albums contain much more genuine prog than a lot of the artists who have been added. I think there is an element of snobbery among prog fans when it comes to Meatloaf (wasn't his name originally one word?).
As has been said though, he has been discussed in this forum many times before.

He'll probably be discussed on here many times still to come too, if he doesn't get added! "Bat Out Of Hell" was produced by Todd Rundgren (even though he apparently found the material "hilarious"), and three members of his band Utopia contributed during the recording of it, as well as Todd himself on guitar. Todd Rundgren is here in crossover, so maybe the "Meat" could be hung somewhere in prog related (so that the flavour could improve over time!) - and everybody would be happy!

I'd say no.

OK, but only if we put him in Indo-Prog.

"...Mr. Loaf, or may I call you Meat?" as Dame Edna said.
I don't expect him to be added.

Meatloaf is a great singer, Jim Steinman's piano sections and elaborate arrangements are fantastic, but they play some sort of Wagnerian Rock (As they coined their style), but it'ss plain Rock with a fancy name, more elaborate than usual but not Prog (of course IMHO).
I have all his albums, love Bat Out of Hell 1 and 2, but I don't see him here, no matter my personal taste.

That's quite a statement. Would you care to expound on this? Or define "genuine" prog?

London Broil is another horrible omission from the archives...

I always thought the concept behind the album was long haired pie muncher wishes to shag lady with large boobs

The music is good, but not remotely the best lyricists in the market.

I think that Prog Related section is poor without theatrical rock masters, as Meatloaf and Alice Cooper:

Maybe less spectacular, but not poor.
Theatrics alone don't make an artist Prog.

The lyrics to Bat out of Hell aren't meant to be taken seriously. They're a joke. They're sarcasm - intended to poke fun at all those 'now or nothing, always and forever, turn it up to eleven, rock and roll in my soul, love is eternal' teenagers. IT's a sex-crazed dungeon consortium of baseball game innuendos, cheesy (to the core) spoken word elements, and a ten minute long song about crashing a motorcycle. It's a joke, and I love the lyrics for it.

Love Meatloaf albums for years but cant see him in Prog same as Alice Cooper who is one of my all time faves. Theatrical rock at best.

Does anyone see the irony of a member called "Progistoomainstream" asking for a mainstream artist to be added?
