I just wanted to know, do they play the older Yes classics on these tours? Does anybody recommend going? |

I definitely recommend going. I'm going to the San Francisco show. I don't know if they're going to play older Yes, but they will probably play most of the Drama album which is great in and of itself. Plus it's Squires band Syn, Alan White's group and Steve Howe solo (!!!!) each doing a set. This is a must-see event. ------------- "The red polygon's only desire / is to get to the blue triangle." |

I'm going to that one as well. I read somewhere that they are definately playing Machine Messiah and Tempus Fugit, along with I've Seen all Good People at the end. -------------

I don't know, but if you're trying to decide whether to go on this basis of whether or not they're playing "old" Yes, I would say you're making a mistake. Just go and check it out, if they play old tunes, great, if not, great. You lucky buggers I'm green with envy you will enjoy.I was at the Glasgow Drama concert many years ago and have to admit I walked out half way through it, but that was in the sheer frustration at witnessing Trevor Horne using a voice synth to sound like Jon. It was very difficult to watch the classic songs without Jon on lead vocals.But I wouldn't walk out on this tour

the announcement of this tour was a huge relief for me. proof at last that some creative juices are still flowing within the yes framework. sadly yes decided do dive into full-on nostalgia after the very rewarding THE LADDER album. i deliberately missed out the yessymphonic one and whilst the 2003-tour was nice the 35th anniv. tour did absolutely nothing for me with it's stiff museal ambience and stage props you're probably more likely to see at the back door of an abbatoir. how jon anderson can keep going on about 'moving yes music ever forward" and in doing so keeping a straight face is beyond me. seeing these yes stalwarts going back to small venues, doing their own thing and the promise to revisit the music of one of the most controversial and thus most valued pieces of yes music shows that there is still hope. and without hope you cannot start the day, or whatever it was... fingers crossed that this tour can make it over to europe! |

I think The Ladder was middling at best, it just seemed fantastic after the atrocity of Open Your Eyes. Magnification, however, was to me the best Yes album since Drama, and not at all nostalgia-based. But it sold next to nothing, so I don't blame them for playing it safe (and the setlist on the 35th Anni tour was very diverse, with many unexpected tracks).
Yeah, I'm with you. I would have popped over to Canada, but as it is I'm already away in Turkey to see F1 racing on those dates.

But it sold next to nothing, so I don't blame them for playing it safe for what it's worth i had my hand in doing the promotion for the two sherwood-yes albums in europe. and – here's the catch – after being bored to tears with the new tracks on K2A 1 and 2 (just why is everyone so excited about "mind drive", which is pleasant at it's best, but totally disjointed at its worst? just my two cents.) i quite enjoyed "open your eyes" despite all it's obvious weaknesses. but both "OYE" and "the ladder" had a newness about them that nobody can deny and it will probably be the last time we'll see and hear such an amount of newness in yes music. "magnification" has a number of nice tracks and has become somewhat of a grower for me, though it lacks the urgency and the surprising moments of "the ladder". oh well, welcome to another one of about a kazillion of opinions on that one. anyway, have a good time in türkiye and enjoy the F1. |

I'll definetely be missing this tour as it almost certainly will be lousy. Three sets of primarliy unknown and uncared for music? Are they nuts?! That'd be like a "reunion" show of Robert Plant's solo stuff, John Paul Jone's solo stuff and Page bringing out P Diddy to do Come With Me with a short encore of In Through The Out Door tacked on as an afterthought. Such ridiculous ticket prices too. ------------- Prog is the new punk, becuase kids who shop at Hot Topic don't know Bill Bruford is God. |

Maybe they know they have fans who don't need to hear the same songs over and over and over for years on end. Maybe they know there are poeple who go to see concerts not just get a greatest hits regurigitated into their laps. Just guesses, mind you.
And I'd damned well pay to see a Plant /JPJ/Page solo tour, as long as P Diddy was only invited on stage as a target for rotten tomatoes.
