AICAN (prog-post-rockish math-athmospheric tetragon from Ekaterinburg)

Aican is a young Russian modern prog band founded in Russia, Ekaterinburgm in 2009. The members of the band describe their music as 'instrumental evolution-rock', claiming Tool, Oceansize, Mogwai, King Crimson, The Mars Volta, At The Drive In, Isis, Indukti, Ratm, The fall of troy, Hella, Jaga Jazzist and Krikston among other influences.

"Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." (c) Frank Zappa.

Their debut album came out on the 11th of November, 2011. The CD was issued on RAIG label in Russia and is available worldwide.

A short description:

Combining influences from classic rock to metal and from fusion to ambient, AICAN create instrumental music that can turn from heartfelt sentimental melodies to all-out tense and thundering therapy. Entitled Art Saves/Kills, their debut album is an intriguing musical journey that leads listeners through a wide range of emotions without even needing words. The band has moody alt-rock sound, but one listen makes it clear that they have an obvious understanding of the power dynamics and are charting a complicated rockier course, with definite art-prog influences that run the gamut from King Crimson (the albums final track is the bands dedication to the KC veterans) to Tool. Enjoyably consistent and focused work!

Cool stuff, very Porcupine Tree-esque. I'll bring it to the Heavy Prog team.
