My band Garden have just stuck a demo up on our facebook, have a listen!

Apologies for the less-than-perfect recording quality. We're recording an EP at the beginning of next year which we'll be spending a lot more time on, and which features much more current material, the demo Incubus being 3 years old itself.

Cheers!

Oh, because I noticed it recommended in the guidelines for this thread (and in case it interests anybody)...

Garden are from Edinburgh, Scotland
Our group includes the standard voice, guitar, fretless bass, keys, drums set up along with a violinist, cellist, saxophonist and flautist.

Welcome aboard. Hug

Incubus I've listened to ... fantastic melodic-core progressive metal (especially darkly fuzzy bass and crying guitar), superb stuff indeed. Clap

Shameless bump, with the addition that I am recording vocals, bass guitar, double bass and euphonium for our EP over the coming weeks. This might interest anybody who come across this post. It might not.

Oh and if you listen and enjoy... please 'like' or 'follow' so you can keep up with the EP's progress!

Shameless bump... not to mention, Garden(minus a drummer) will be piling into my bedroom to rehearse this weekend for the upcoming EP "Seedling". All seven of us! Expect some meaningless progress reports in photographic form!

Hi, heard the demo, don't dare to choose a location by one song, but seems to me that it's closer to Symphonic Metal.or Heavy Prog.

Maybe with more songs could be easier to find a suitable home.

Good luck

Iván

It is symphonic metal. Symphonic prog metal.

If you're referring to the specific categories on the site, then fair enough, I wouldn't know how the bands are organised here but if you're speaking more generally I do think you're splitting hairs.

Or rather, progressive symphonic metal if you like. Of course it is also very power-metal based.

And indeed, there's more variety to come, hopefully 3 more songs will be recorded before summer!

Today we recorded the piano parts for two songs, "Freya" and "North", guitars and violin follow later this weekend.

When we reach 100 "likes" on our facebook page we will release an instrumental demo of one of these songs!

Geez a hand pals!

For those of you who are used to listening to MIDI, there's a short new demo on our facebook page and bandcamp of some new material. More sophisticated and complex than Incubus, perhaps... !

P.S "like" the facebook page to be kept up to date with the EP progress, recording has just gotten under way!

I've just done a preliminary mix of "Freya's Song" from our upcoming debut EP, please have a listen to the sample, and if you like it, please spread the word and "like" the facebook page or follow us on soundcloud!

Well, the last upload was crap, so it's just as well nobody noticed...

But there is now a full, first mix of Freya's Song. The EP is taking longer than expected but this song is complete, have a listen at Facebook, Bandcamp or Soundcloud, and do "like", follow or share if you fancy!

Cheers

Thanks Samuel. I'll give this a good listen when on the train travelling Tuesday p.m.

In the meantime, it is not usual for a band to be considered for addition until at least a full release has been made, i.e. your EP. So do please keep us in touch with developments.

In the meantime, I'll past again when I've had a good listen.Thumbs Up

We've just uploaded another first-mix of a song from the upcoming EP. It's called North and is what you *might* be tempted to call a ballad. Nevermind what one calls it, it features some of the softer material that will make up our first release, as well as some of the more vicious segments.

Have a listen, and "like" the facebook page if you use the site.

This week Garden got a new violinist for the next EP which we'll be rehearsing towards come January, and the *first* EP's long overdue mixing, mastering and release begins this week, so bumpity bump. Wander over to the facebook, soundcloud or bandcamp and have a listen to our demos, there is much more to come in the near future.

Cheers pals.

Forgive us but we have a bunch of candidates in the evaluation list, especially in Prog Metal Team (they're one of the most active Teams of all).

I love your stuffs, but afraid whether only one EP can ring their bell ... I'll pass you to Team, anyhow.

It means that the team considering the work for inclusion believe it is prog, but not falling under their own sub-genre for inclusion, so they will ask another team to evaluate.

It's called ping pong in some societies.

Almost there, I don't see any problem in being added to the site - if you could throw in here a short biography that would be much appreciated

Posted By: Garden
Date Posted: January 27 2013 at 12:17
Sure thing, let's see...

"Garden began in 2006 as a personal creative venture for composer & multi-instrumentalist Samuel Bradley, originally the goal being to play power metal with a slight progressive twist, along with the addition of violin in stead of synthesised orchestral sounds.
The difficulties of forming a band lasted some years, which would turn out for the best, as when Garden finally came to record their first demo in late 2011, followed by the debut EP a year later, the music was far more sophisticated than the original vision would indicate, having picked up influences from a variety of styles and disciplines through the years, as well as expanding the ensemble to include even more acoustic instruments alongside the standard rock lineup."

Well, not sure if that's any good. As you can tell there's not much to say. I've basically been writing songs in my bedroom until I was able to record them recently but if something's better than nothing then there you go!

Yes, 2011's the most accurate, though even now we don't have a drummer and don't perform live!

I'm guessing I'll grow to love it . . .

Thanks very much!

As it so happens, the newer stuff is considerably less metal-oriented and the next release will feature acoustic guitar and flute a-plenty...

It's record store day!

Aesthetic properties (plausibly) supervene on physical properties. This entails that if two worlds are exactly alike in all physical properties, then necessarily they are exactly alike in all aesthetic properties.

However, the converse is *not* entailed, that artefacts aesthetically alike are therefore alike physically.

So, download the existential prog epic Somewhere Else for absolutely nothing.

Its costlessness may preclude satisfaction of a desire you may have to feel like you have *earned* something by paying for it, a feeling which may ground the (dubious in the digital age) attachment to physical artefacts, qua physical artefacts, as a conduit for aesthetic experience.
