Unusual band this. I came across them on the RecordsOnRibs website where their album, Mash, is available as a free download (or buy CDR) http://recordsonribs.com/artists/sweetpotato/RecordsOnRibs%20describes%20the%20album%20as%20follows;%20Like%20a%20less%20pastoral%20Canterbury%20Scene%20record,%20Mash%20relentlessly%20perverts%20generic%20conventions-%20rocking%20like%20a%20mother%20and%20bewildering%20and%20overjoying%20in%20equal%20abundance." rel="nofollow - http://recordsonribs.com/artists/sweetpotato/

RecordsOnRibs describes the album as follows; "Like a less pastoral Canterbury Scene record, Mash relentlessly perverts generic conventions- rocking like a mother and bewildering and overjoying in equal abundance."

This band is a Bristol, England-based band that plays progressive jazz rock with an alternative rock vibe. They describe themselves as;

"We are a bristol-based four-piece playing improvised clarinet led free-jazz and freenoise stuff alongside composed tunes ranging from jazz to freak-out mathy rock."

They describe their influences as "Beefheart, Zappa, Tom Waits, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Nick Cave, King Crimson, Gentle giant, etc etc etc."

As said, I downloaded out of curiosity a couple of days ago and have played it three or four times since. Please download and have a listen. I'm not sure like RecordsOnRibs that I'd describe the band as Canterbury (actually I am sure, I wouldn't), but tracks like "We'll Think" do open with a Soft Machine vibe while the following track "Slow Priest Turns the Mummers On" is more jazz than rock.

And what happened to the Short Wave  for Canterbury suggestion by the way. Is it being looked at? Smile

It's not fusion, but avant might want to take a stab. I'll alert the team.
