Hello everyone
I joined the "Prog Archives" a few days ago after using the lists and review sections countless times, and I figured it would be about time to give something back.
Some of my favorite  bands( I am assuming prog bands and other geners that are listed here?) would be in no particular order are
King Crimson
After Crying
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Magma !!
Universe Zero
Art Zoyd
Present
X Legged Sally
French TV
and a couple of Japanese bands that I dare not try to spell but they dwell in the RIO/Zeuhl music arena.
and lastly Frank Zappa.
Most of you have probably seen most or some of these bands live, but sorry to say the only artist I have seen live on more than twenty or better times is Frank Zappa and that was due to living in the North East,I now live in an area that is quite barren to creative music so I have my local electronic box store order my cd's for me which causes me alot of strange looks coming my way.
I am really starting to listen alot to RIO bands but am kind of confused as to why there are no sub catagories under that banner. So if anyone has a couple of tips on a really good RIO or Zeuhl band I would be very grateful.

So thats it for my introduction if you need to know anything else about me a six pack of some English Ale and if you can get by the wife and dog I will try to answer any question you have.
                                                           Thank you

Welcome Neroon001, you have some great bands listed. I can't help you with RIO/Zeuhl, but I am a big Frank Zappa fan. 20 times live, that's great! What years?

wow that was quick ! most of the shows were from the 70's and a few in the early eighties I always thought the Halloween shows in a small theater on the east side of NYC the name escapes me at the moment but were quite good. The one thing that still amazes me was his ability to get some of the best drummers around.I knew one guy who finally got an audition after trying for several years, got on a plane flew across country went to his house met  FZ and then was asked to impress him him with only a snare, guess he didn't get the job, last I heard he is teaching drums on the side. Thanks for replying I am quite impressed with this site at the start I was kind of hessitant but all is good now

Thanks for the heads up on Cheer-Accident ! I listened/watched the video clip and really liked what I heard ,I think there is alot of Crimson influence in that tune. This means I will need to investigate further on this band.Is there any particular album that I should start with first ? Thanks again for the tip

Glad you enjoyed it! They've got a few albums in that sort of style, the best I think out of those is Babies Shouldn't Smoke, which you can listen to http://cheer-accident.bandcamp.com/album/babies-shouldnt-smoke" rel="nofollow - here

Other great albums of theirs IMO are http://cheer-accident.bandcamp.com/album/the-why-album" rel="nofollow - The Why Album , http://grooveshark.com/#/album/Introducing+Lemon/2502217" rel="nofollow - Introducing Lemon , http://grooveshark.com/#/album/Salad+Days/2597462" rel="nofollow - Salad Days and Fear Draws Misfortune, among others. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the recomendations, but I don't want to say my age but I bought those when they first were released on vinyl back in the 70's, however I did not discover Magma until about 8 years or so ago and have been amazed with their music ever since.I did get a Henry Cow album way back but as I recall could not make heads or tails of it back then same thing when I bought Eric Dolphy's Out To Lunch album now these are some of my all time favorite albums.Something like when you were a kid and your parents tried to make you eat you're vegetables and now you have them all the time, just required a bit of patience on my part.

finally got to hear some Cheer Accident the other day I believe the album was called lemon ? (sometimes my memory isn't what it used to be) WOW ! I heard all kind of influences mostly King Crimson and some Zappa but not in a clone type of way,the drummer I thought was quite good. Thanks again for a great tip on a band that I have not heard of before but will be adding to my ever growing mass of media.

Finally able to listen to the video ( still can't get used to that) of Katra Turana I liked the violin alot wish he/she could have soloed a bit more. The the voices at first I thought it was a young woman then it sounded like a guy trying to do a womans voice very confusing to me.I thought the music was ok but also thought that it had nothing to do with Zeuhl but more on a theatre production  RIO side of music sort of like an avant-garde style play, what I really love about that kind of music if you only have a soundtrack you have to try and visualize the play, sometimes that is the only way for me to listen to this kind/style of music. Thanks for the tip

^^ Thanks for your evaluation and comments.
That videoclip cannot be suitable for Zeuhl-ish appearance but let me say please listen to their first creation if you can ... I'm sure it will not disappoint you. Cool

Hi Neroon001,

Welcome!  You are a grisled veteran compared to me!

I was always a very casual Frank Zappa fan, but with more and more excellent FZ live recordings coming out
like Live In NY, I am getting more into ole Frank!

Have been listening to Cheer Accident for a couple of weeks now and I really like what I have heard so far. Kayo Dot is new to me so I will check them out soon I hope,I have noticed that they are highly rated here it's just me being overwhelmed with stuff at the moment is why they haven't made it to my must listen to list just yet,if I get a chance this week I will do my best to hear them.

sorry it has taken awhile to reply, funny that you mentioned "grisled"  a friend said the same thing to me not 2 weeks ago  and if I let my hair & beard grow I look like grizzly adams. If you get the chance I would highly reccomend the 3 cd set of "Lather" in that you get quite the variety of FZ from whole orchestra type to small group recordings, when I listen to this out in my workshop I have a hard time getting anything done seems I always find myself sitting down and just listening. Also be sure to checkout the "You Can't do that on stage anymore"series have a really hard time picking a favorite here.

@ Damoxt7942
I have listened to quite a few of the Japenese style recordings and liked them all but sometimes I have the problem of just which catagory they fit into to me alot of these groups don't fit into the "Zeuhl" genre but rather the "RIO" genre sinse that catagory is so diverse, but at the same time one thinks that if they don't fit into any other genre they get grouped into RIO which is ok I guess but very confusing to me.2 groups that I really like are Tipographica & Bondage Fruit they have found a place in my cd player alot lately another one starts with a K and I really don't want to try and spell their name but are also very good.I sorta knew when joining this site that it would be quite an expense, but there are so many groups out there that I have yet to here thats why I guess the reviews come in handy on making a purchasing decision and tips from members.I really do listen to anything that is reccomended by members before a review I think if a person took the time to tell me about a group the least I can do is listen to hear what all the fuss is about. Thanks again for the tips and if you find something special please let me know
