Two "love 'em or hate 'em" Canadian prog singers.  Who do you think is the best?  Please only consider their voices (not that James Labrie plays any instruments anyway, to my knowledge at least).  Take into account all eras of their careers and both studio and live performance.

Geddy for sure.

OMG it must be the easiest poll I've seen here in a while haha!! Geddy Lee anytime, anywhere, I really don't like Labrie. DT would have been better if Dominci had stayed IMO

Where's another famous Canadian singer, Paul Anka?LOL

Seriously: LaBrie for me. But I must to admit I'm not keen to both singers. As we used to tell in my country: The one is for eighteen, the second is for twenty minus two.

I have a short history with LaBrie, but few decades with Lee - so Geddy for sure.

OR six of one and half a dozen of the other.  Ying Yang

I voted Geddy.  His early vocals take some getting used to, but by the mid 80s his voice got pretty good.  I have nothing in particular against La Brie and regard him as just fine; meaning he'll do but I am not real excited with his work.

I have never hated either one, before or now. I don't think I have ever voted a poll so fast as this one.

I'll go with the minority here; Labrie.

I love them both.  Labrie, at his peak, was better than Geddy Lee ever was, IMO.  His vocals are the part of the music that stand out the most to me in DT's early recordings.  But Labrie's voice hasn't aged as well; he's great in the studio but has some problems with pitch live, while Geddy's voice is better than it has ever been.  I'll go with Geddy, because I think he's been better throughout his career than Labrie has.

There was this one time when I didn't feel like tearing my ears out when listening to Rush. Can't say the same about Dream Theater though

hmm.......well not really too big a fan of either, though Geddy is not as bad.
But early LaBrie was pretty decent.

Early LaBrie gets my vote :P

I actually like LaBrie more. Both are pretty bad.

I like LaBrie. But Geddy Lee is like listening to a high pitched death melon. what ever that may be.

Geddy Lee. James Labrie is probably the single biggest thing that keeps me from enjoying 90% of DT's discography.

Geddy...especially his voice in the '80s from "Moving Pictures" all the way to "Hold Your Fire".

Geddy.  LaBrie has more range but his high notes generally sound awful to me because of his poor, kind of muffled diction.  LaBrie is also better at Geddy at gritty production but his grit, for what it is, is not very appealing.  As such, Geddy plays to his strengths and sings within his limitations, which I cannot say for LaBrie and that seals my vote.

Joni Mitchell, comfortably better than either.  Overall as a musician too, I like her more than either.

Both great singer for my ears. But James is one of the reasons I love DT... Wider range, higher pitch, more powerful... the rest is just matter of taste...

Labrie for me please...

Geddy Lee easlily for me. La Brie has some moments I like, but many other's I just don't like. Geddy has never annoyed me as much as La Brie has.

Jeff Martin slays them all !
For this poll though LaBrie by a gnats whisker.

I like both singers. Don't understand why others don't like either. In this poll I voted for Labrie.

Given that Geddy can't hit those high notes anymore and therefore can't do those early songs proper justice, I can't disagree more with what I bolded above.

Geddy Lee all the way. Labrie is a sh*tty singer who should have retired after 1994. He ruins every single live album.

Labrie is the reason I can’t get into DT. I have Metropolis 2 and Octavarium LP’s and love them, but that whiney voice grates on me.
Geddy’s voice is pure Hard Rock like Burke Shelley (Budgie).

Dream Theater never did it for me.

Geddy Lee by a mile.
