That is great news - if for no other reason than after interviewing Martin a couple of years ago I was almost certain we'd seen the last of him as a working musician.

My thoughts exactly, after reading that interview I never thought we'd see him on stage again.

It's such a shame that Lemington is such a pain in the arse to get to from where I am.

As we're not touring this yeah we picked Leamington as it's pretty much in the middle of the country, it has good links by road, the venue is 200 yds from the train station and also a short train ride from the airport. We really try to suit most people but understand it's not easy for everyone.

It's going to be a cracking night though! :-)

^Sounds like it, the problem is not so much getting there as getting back as the last train leaves (or at least used to) before the gig will finish and I really cant afford an over nighter.Disapprove

Is Paul's album ever going to come out?

It was sent away for mastering more than three weeks ago: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=84138" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=84138  - no further updates as yet, but I would expect an announcement very soon...
When queried on facebook (6th Jan 2012) regarding the anticipated release date, this was his reply at that time: "Late February. Mastering on 9th Jan, sorting coverdesign/manufacture/distribution next week. It will be available on website first. Also some live tracks will be available for download in a couple of weeks!"

Intriguing to see that Martin Orford has come back.

From what I understood of his reasons for retiring, he was sick to death of piracy cutting into his record sales and didn't feel able to keep working in an environment where that would keep happening. So it wouldn't be too inconsistent of him to come back for live gigs, since there he'd be playing for the benefit of the paying customers who turn up to the gig instead of album listeners who may or may not have acquired the music legitimately.

That or the Megaupload bust has cheered him up on the whole piracy subject. :)

So we'll we be hearing anything from The Old Road at these shows?

Yes, I was surprised too, for that reason.

I think the plan is to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Nomzamo, but to include something of Martin's solo work and something of Paul's solo work...... all crammed into a support slot. Paul's also saying "expect the unexpected" so anything might happen!

Thirty years ago, I said that if Horslips ever reformed and played a gig, I would be there, because they were so sensational live. Unfortunately, unavoidable work commitments meant that that wasn't possible.

I feel pretty much the same about Martin Orford. The man is the underrated genius of modern prog; The Old Road is one of the best albums of the last 30 years. And now I'm retired - there's no excuse, so I'll be there!

Well, I've got you on the Horslips side, as I saw them at Cropredy last year < smug grin (they were excellent by the way)

I'm glad, too, that I'm not the only one who considers MO as one of the unsung heroes of the genre; just a shame he's virtually retired - have had an e-chat to him in the last couple of days & he said he's only a musician as and when it suits him to be so nowadays, which as far as I'm concerned (selfishly) is a damned shame, but great for him as he's doing exactly what he wants to do these days.

I saw Horslips 11 times in the 70s and they never gave less than a brilliant performance; I'd have loved to see them at Cropredy but had to work.

BTW Do you have Martin Orford's e-mail address? I need to contact him about a possible cricket match between his club and mine!

Tickets for the Leamington show  (the only UK show for 2012)  are now available from the Pendragon website   http://www.pendragon.mu/" rel="nofollow - http://www.pendragon.mu    For just £15 of your GBP you'll get a stunning Pendie show plus support by the Paul Menel band exclusively  featuring Martin Orford!    (saving £3.50 on the venue's booking/transaction fees!)

I think the Pendie show will involve a lot of  "big and new" tracks accompanied by "big classics" It's going to be a fabulous show and the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of IQ's Nomzamo album as support will round it all off nicely to a fab night out.

Hope to see a smattering of PA'ers there!
