I remember having done this for Genesis as well but now it's time for our prog metal kings. The idea is to rank their studio albums in your favorite order. In this case this will be a top 11. I'll do the kick off:
1. Systematic Chaos
2. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
3. Images and Words
4. Awake
5. Scenes from a Memory
6. Octavarium
7. A dramatic Turn of Events
8. Black Clouds and Silver Linings
9. Falling into Infinity
10. When Dreams and Day Unite
11. Train of Thought
With the remarks that no.9 was the hardest to rank for me. I truly love the 3 best songs of this album (Lines in the Sand, Trial of Tears and Peruvian Skies) and New Millenium and Hell's Kitchen to a lesser extent. But the other 6 are disappointing for their standard really making it their least equable album (unless Octavarium ... ?).
Train of Thought is by far their least for me except for Stream of Consciousness.
Give it some thought and comments and go for it ! ------------- A day without prog is a wasted day |

Don't have WDADU or anything after ToT, but... Scenes from a Memory (by a big margin) Train of Thought Octavarium Systematic Chaos Images and Words Black Clouds and Silver Linings Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Awake A Dramatic Turn of Events I began to lose interest with Black Clouds and Silver Linings and totally lost interest with A Dramatic Turn of Events. The main problem for me is a lack of growth - Too much sameness has crept into their sound to maintain my attention.

Well....it's the proggiest they've ever been. Rudess steals the show, LaBrie's voice is quite good in this one...hell, they even added a bit of tango (Lord Nafaryus)!. You see, The Astonishing is a misunderstood album. Dream Theater fans are not the intended target, and the intended target is not known for liking DT that much. I really think it's an amazing record that deserves a higher score here in the archives. ------------- Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know.
