Just found this interesting self-released album on bandcamp. Did a search, but found nothing on our site at all about it, so here goes:

The Omega Experiment is a Prog/Experimental two-man metal band hailing from Michigan, USA. They are a totally DIY band, and have just released an incredible debut album. The Omega Experiment is a concept album that follows frontman and guitarist Dan Wieten’s life from birth through addiction and new beginnings, and this is reflected in both the emotional delivery of the lyrics and in the songwriting itself. The album flows as a continuous experience from beginning to end, and combines the powerful melodic 80′s rock/metal style of Styx, Journey, and Queensryche with the more modern progressive metal style of Devin Townsend and Dream Theater.

This album was apparently recorded with home software and mixed through referencing the sound across headphones, computer, and car speakers. It is becoming more and more apparent with each passing day that the quality of music that can come from a home studio can equal, if not surpass, that of the professional studios. Bands and artists have access to plug-ins and effects these days that would have been unthinkable anywhere in the music industry less than a decade ago. The record was also mastered by Acle Kahney of Tesseract.

Production on here is cetainly dense, and the Devin Townsend influence is pretty obvious.

The band is:
Dan Wieten - guitars, vocals, bass, drum programming, production/engineering, some samples.
Ryan Aldridge - Keyboards/samples

Guest musicians:
Victor Lazareus - vocals
Bob Guthrie - vocals
Jeremy Dewitt - vocals
Kenny Polidan - Bass (live)
James Kundinger - Guitar (live)

Influences:
Devin Townsend, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, Frost*, Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Textures, Soilwork, Styx, REO, Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, Shai Hulud, Mastodon, Techno music, Dimmu Borgir, Def Leppard, 80's Kiss, Van Halen (Sammy era), Death, Fantasy movies, Dillinger Escape Plan, Rush, Anything Mike Patton does......
