I like Gavin's drumming on it but I think the tunes are a little weak. Not their best effort imo.

OSI is the beast......but on my first couple listens, I have to agree with the "doctor" on this one.......Blood is their best effort so far, IMO

Agreed.  None of the others is consistently solid from beginning to end as Blood is.  However, I am going to buy the new one when I can find someone selling it as a download and not just a CD.

The notes are just an interesting way to get from one silence to the next - Mick Gooderick

My other problem with the album is the mastering (or lack of)...the CD is on the high side of just too much compression/brick walling. Its left my system with a bad taste in its mouth....the cymbals are wayyy too shrilly tinny and just overall it sounds like my system is clipping when I play the album loud.

I almost bought the vinyl version too, but now I am glad I did not as I fear it will be of same quality or simply a needle drop version....not mastered for vinyl.

Sure not their best album. Still it rocks badly however

Oddly enough, I don't have any OSI albums, though prog metal is the genre I probably listen to most often.

So, 'Blood' should be my first foray into OSI?

Definitely, it might be more straightforward than you expect, and Kevin Moore's voice is a bit of an acquired taste but Blood is the place to start, maybe Office Of Strategic Influence as well, but that album has a different feel from the rest of their albums in my opinion.
