You can allways chose one, I may include "extra" nominations, if there is room within 2 heats, and my judgement is that they add to the poll, that is, there is not allready 3-4 tracks from the same artist.

Fair enough, seems unfair but i'll change my votes accordingly....Confused

EDIT...Actually i've reconsidered, its quite ludicrous to omit singles eps etc....basically it means that these songs won't ever be considered for the best song of any year, so basically songs like See Emily Play, Happy the Man and Grendel can't be voted for? To me it nullifies this whole process to omit such songs...but hey its your baby...

I couldn't see any reason not to include singles/EP's either . Those songs by Marillion are only available on that album I believe. I have it on vinyl.

They were released on Bsides themselves 1986, but its classified as a compilation album on Prog archives and can't be considered for this poll according to the rules, even if it was, to have any of those songs win for 86 would be just as ludicrous, i say they should be considered for their original release year of 82, hence i shall be leaving my votes as they are, to be considered or not...Tongue

This is just a series of poll's, there will allways some restrictions, i did it from the beginning because then it was easy to rank the top albums in the particular year.

My series have been about tracks from studio albums , I wont change that now.
Someone else might make poll's for the best tracks from Singles, EPs, Promo's ,live recordings, DVD, Soundtracks, Boxset or other Compilation.
I think a lot of good stuf is hidden there, especial on live albums, but this is about studio albums only.

Dont forget, i go trough every single nomination every year, to check that its within the rules. It takes quite some time.
That would be a lot harder if I should look for Singles, EPs, Promo's ,live recordings, DVD, Soundtracks, Boxset or other Compilation, also.

It's allright with me...  I don't know many significant songs that are exclusively released on EP:s or singles. But if there was a song from an EP I thought was significant, I could always mention it here at least. And as you say,  anything can be suggested for nomination.

Nominating song from another year yes, but they would offcourse never make it into the Poll's.

Glad it hasn't closed yet. been working all day.

Passport - Earthborn - Palm Tree Song
Camel - The Single Factor - Selva
Kaipa - Nattdjurstid - Identitetskris
Steve Hackett - Highly Strung - Camino Royale

I was also considering Jethro Tull -  Mayhem Maybe and The Alan Parsons Project - Silence and I
Also considering Gabriel - Wallflower or I have the touch. I dont remember the fourth song.

I listened to the Supertramp album, which was good! Loved the last track "Dont leave me now". I heard some of the Eloy album and it sounds very good although the vocals are slightly weak. Nice sound.

Well done for that nomination. Brilliant track. I went for Cell 151. The full length vesion is magnificent.

edit.
Actually that version was only available on EP at the time so thechnically I shouldn't vote for it.

Where does it say 6:25? The album version was just over 3 minutes. The CD release put the long version on instead,

Okay, that's right. I have the cd version.

But since the long version is on the cd you should be able to nominate that track (I hope). Apparently it is now regarded as the official Cell 151 version since it is just named "Cell 151" without any "extended version" added. This is the version I've always been listening to.

Yes I can vote for it but technically I am voting for the short version as this is what was released in 1982 actually. I don't suppose it makes any difference either way.

Actually it does. I am not voting for it any more.

Art Zoyd - Phase IV - La Nuit
Maurizio Bianchi - Mectpyo Bakterium - Fetish Pinksha
Etron Fou Leloublan - Les Poumons Gonfles - Christine

A nod to Urban Sax & Pierre Henry's "Fight" off Paradise Lost (not in the archives), and I would've nominated Prat's Masal had it not been already mentioned. And considered Katra Turana strongly.

Well, it's in the PA archives, and I'd argue that it is prog....Manzanera does some very nice, unconventional things with his guitar, as always, and the synth parts are sublime.

I'd also say that Games Without Frontiers is prog as well.  Maybe my parameters are not as strict as others.  There was a lot of interesting experimentation & crossover music being made in the early to mid-1980's, much of which was outside the boundaries of "prog" as some define it on this site.

I was bassist to Bob Fripp's student Alonzo Jones and his band "CAVU" at that time, we did all sorts of wild stuff that was definitely prog!  It blended folk prog, eclectic & fusion prog, world music, pop....heady jams and good stuff.  Guitar synths were still very new, rack effects were in common usage, etc.

I know that many on this site rather dis the '80s, but they were remarkable times on many levels.
