I've just listened to Lady Fantasy for the first time, and I find it very exciting and moving song. However, I've read somewhere that during a live show, Latimer cried while playing it, so I wonder, what might the song mean? Maybe something personal for Latimer? I have wild guesses, but I'd rather hear your thoughts first. Sorry if this was posted before.

He likes a woman he can't have. A very daring theme for a song I must say.

I would rather think a very common theme for a song... though perhaps the way it was written gives it more credentials than your usual broken hearts pop piece... I would have to listen more carefully to the lyrics in order to give an opinion myself.

I think Mr Textbook is being sarcastic.. Yes, it is a very familiar theme for a song. In the case of Lady Fantasy, it just happens to be in a prog context. Good song, anyway, whatever it's about.

Hi, I'm not sure that it is necessary to open up the frog to dissect it and ... kill it ... to find out what the lyrics and piece is all about. There are people, to whom music, is not a simple song ... with ... baseless meanings ... such a band would not be likely be able to create something like The Snow Goose ... that most rock people trashed ... because they can not appreciate music for what it is ... music ... and a valuable description of your own inner self and life! Let me beg you for something ... don't kill the frog just so you can look inside ... there are enough pictures out there that can show it to you that will not kill ... for your greed/search for knowledge. All knowledge is out there in front of you, and all you have to do is ... close your eyes and let it flow and fly through you ... the rest is not necessary, any more than the words are. There is a point, where "truth" ... is not necessary any more. You finding out about someone's horror or fear, is one of these things ... you learning about someone's failure to say I love you before there loved one passed, is another ... myriad of images come to mind ... but you have to decide how selfish you want to be ... and I doubt that most musicians and artists out there want to go around naked ... for your dilectation! ... well, some of those posters, might so you can spend money on their calenders or what not ... but you have to decide if that is what you want from the folks we talk about here. I don't need that and most of the ones I met, don't want that adulation, either!

Hi, It's just a love poem ... let's say that he saw someone that reminded him of someone he loved ... for the sake of a story ... Now here is my example from a poem I wrote 20 years ago ... is there any difference? You, ... are no longer a
vision. ... Or a poem.
There was a day, and many a night, of
wonder, of hope, of waiting, and perhaps of expecting,... and, I
have often felt, ..'what daring'.. have I, to stand and think, much
less,... even more, write a poem, of hope, prayer like, that one day
this will all come to happen, somehow, amid all the
daily ... events ... and rotten repercussions of doubt and
belief, some mine, most by others, that, ... somehow, in some
way, I would one day stand up across your path, and
blatantly tell you, that, ... I loved you.
And you might
say, ... do you know me? ...
And I'll say, ... what is
there to know, that can't be proved by your being, and, standing
here, ...
I had to grow, you had to see, I had to learn, you
had to be, and now, as the end of the past nears, ever so
softly, I can finally see your
eyes, truly, ... fully, ... and feel what can't
possibly ever, be felt by many, but the lucky few, ... chosen
ones, ... yes,...You, ... are no longer a vision. Or even a
poem.
And from my dream of our climb along the many
splendour'd shaft of light shall the truth of truths forever be
born, that no one can ever cast a side glance of doubt over the power
of hope, or of love, and of care, ... (yes, I have
cared,.) ... and of trust, Oh yes, trust, that indomitable
faith, which can make or break all of us into worthless, unhappy
beings whose desires are masters of oblivion, and reality is but a
shadow of what it all could and should, ... forever be.
Sure
it was hard.
And, it was painful. But worth it. For in one
second, all that ever was, only but a vision, perhaps a hope or
two, and a wondrous sight, is now, so true, so clear, so
perfect, and so inspiring, that I'm not sure that there even
exist in this unfathomable idea of eternal time and space, enough ink
and lead to describe you, ... or ... enough notes, scales and
instruments to,.. to surround you, ... or ... enough paints
and canvases to delineate you, ... which will truly describe the
feelings not even a second long of a vision within a vision which
is, an incarnate truth, ... a specialized moment, ... of
unbearable joys, ... when all time stands still, ...
and
shines,... oh yes, it shines,... ever so brightly,... when it finally
can be said, once and for all, You ( my dear) ... Are no longer a
vision. ... Or, even, a poem. (c) Pedro Sena 1989

Its pretty much in the lyrics: "Listen very carefully, my words are about to unfold Concerning a lady I've seen but I never could hold"
He even tells you to listen carefully. just really give it a good listen and you will know what he means. Of course real art is about not only what the writer/creator meant, its also about your own interpretation, what it means to you personally.
To me its about the perfect women/ the perfect lover, that he caught a glimpse of in his dreams and thoughts, but he knows he will never be able to hold, its really sad and hes very brave to write a song about it and perform it live.. again listen to it carefully, you will understand.
