Basically stuff that tends to be rather loud, noisy, raw, strange, wierd, etc.. Hopefully Some Proggers out there will come to like some of the more less polished things in music. So I'll start this off with a well known figure in the noise circles, Kevin Drumm. Kevin Drumm has worked with many bands and people in avant and experimental scenes, including people such as Jim O'Rourke, Mats Gustafsson, Tony Conrad and many more. Drumm started off his musical journey by messing around with prepared guitars, and from their started to fiddle around with more experimentation with guitars and electronics.  -------------

Theres going to be some Prog on here.  Nothing that purists think is Prog though.Also, The Cherry Point is great too. One of (if not) the harshest noise bands out there.

Let me introduce you to Masahiko Ohno, better known as Solmania, who has garnered a cult status in the japanoise scene, with his guitar based noise freakouts, putting to shame the noise-y guitar freakouts of Fred Frith and Arto Lindsay. -------------

Today's blog is going to be about a favorite band of mine, and to celebrate their inclusion into the Archives, Ashtray Navigations. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7415" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7415  And, a review for Pearls.. "Imtriprovisation. Ashtray Navigations is the main project of Phil Todd, who makes noisy psychedelic improvisation that has strong krautrock connotations to it. Those Are Pearls That Were His Eyes is the umpteenth release by AN, and is in keeping with their style of long drawn psych wonderings. This album consists of one nearly fifty minute "song" consisting of nothing but oure trippyness. It starts out with a Nurse With Wound influence, with what could easily random pots, pans, spoons, and other assorted kitchenware, being banged around at random, set against an ambient backdrop of a recording of birds and light and airy synth dronings. As the song progresses, the kitchenware goes away, and gets replaced by some guitar dronings and scratches, with the ever constant airy synths. This rather noisy section then suddenly transitions into some lone, floating type guitar playing. This album is not for the casual Prog fan, but for fans of the noisy side of Psych and Kraut, this album is a treat." I tend to favor Schoenberg's pre-12 tone works like Verklarte Nacht (the version for string orchestra is a must-hear), Pelleas und Melisande, Gurrelieder, of his atonal works I like Five Pieces for Orchestra. Xenakis is a composer I need to become more familiar with. But he's the ONLY Greek composer that is ever discussed on classical forums it seems. Another noisemaker is Alfred Schnittke: Schnittke is probably best known for his polystylism, which is a style he practically invented. I can't get into him to be honest. I do however think very highly of his Peer Gynt and many of his film works. I also liked Symphony No. 2. Such a haunting work. But I'm sure you can guess who my favorite 20th Century composer is... .Shostakovich, Bartok, Ravel, Vaughan Williams, Villa-Lobos, Prokofiev, Janacek, Berg, Stravinsky, Tippett, Szymanowski, Revueltas, Honegger, Britten...are composers I continue to come back to time and time again. ------------- “Music is enough for a lifetime but a lifetime is not enough for music.” - Sergei Rachmaninov |

Today I bring you a little known Noise-punk-rock band, the Jaunties. The Jaunties was lead by Jason Willett, known for his work in 1/2 Japanese and various short lived 80's punk bands. I really don't know too much other than that about this short lived band. -------------

| jason willett was never in any 80's punk band. most bands that he's been in have never ended so most bands that he's been in or i should say in, are not short lived. he is still creating music..... the jaunties have made 4 albums & they are still a band. |

 I was thinking of The Fair Brothers when I wrote that. I would consider The Jaunties punk, as well as 1/2 Japanese to an extent though. I could only find Asthma and the singles collection disc The Jaunties for the discog. Both released in 1993. I apparently completely sucked at fact finding with this one.  -------------

Nkondi is extremely, incredibly harsh noise band from Portland OR. Real name is Erik Arteaga and he also runs the label dolldullofrivets which releases many a good noise stuffssss. I have to say, I have been getting more and more into extremely loud noise (tho I still hate Variable Ambit), and this guy's stuff is absolutely one of the harshest noise in existence. Have a ruptured eardrum for yourself. How's about another entry? I'll make an effort to post more often here in the future. Today let me bring to you three very influential (for weird and unlistenable music that is) bands from the sixties, the Nihilist Spasm Band, Musica Elettronica Viva, and AMM. All bands were formed sometime I the mid 60's, all of the bands first records were released on mainstream labels (Polydor, Elektra, and Allied), and all three basically ditched any form of structure to their 'songs'. All three are great free improve bands, each with their own sound. AMM tend to be more jazzy than the other two, The Nihilist Spasm Band almost has a rock quality about them (enough that i'd say they fit Avant-Prog definition, though it won't happen), and Musica Elettronica Viva are more on the electronic side of things.
