Although they have a discussion thread here ( http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=58594" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=58594 ), I don't see that any official request has been made to add this band to PA.

This is Phlox from Malaysia, not the band of the same name from Estonia who is already here.

While a case could be made for Crossover, because of some pop elements, I think Psych/Space is more appropriate.  Their sound seems very similar to More/Meddle/Obscured era Pink Floyd.  But I don't find them to me a Floyd clone by any means.  I find some of their guitar sound to remind me of The Cure, actually.

Anyway, it's very nice stuff, and I think very appropriate for PA.

You can listen to their full length release, Quiver, on their bandcamp page: http://phloxism.bandcamp.com/album/quiver" rel="nofollow - http://phloxism.bandcamp.com/album/quiver .
There are a couple of links there to a few reviews as well.

They should really have been moved here from Unsigned Bands at Christmas/New Year when the album was announced, but that forum is currently a bit of a throwback to the days when availability of a physical CD was a pre-requisite for evaluation. It isn't regularly monitored nowadays, and other cases like this exist there. Hopefully that will all change for the better soon though.

Anyhow, for those who like to remain on the current page to sample music rather than opening a new tab in bandcamp, here is the full album tube that was posted by nescafe726 (a member of the band, I think) back in March of this year:

Definitely belongs here, as Frank has already intimated, and I think I agree with his remark regarding Psych/Space as the more appropriate sub too.

While there are incredibly psych-ish Floydian passages here and I agree it belongs here, the bulk of the music is more a poppish prog area, so I'll try crossover first.

Hey guys, sincerely thank you for this. We don't mind being inducted to any sub genres as long we are doing art rock stuff. Meanwhile, please have a listen to our new single and an EP will be released in this October title YWNTS with conclude of 4-5 songs period. Thanks once again and enjoy.

I'm just a litle bit concerned that there is still no entry for this band on progfreak (only the Estonian Phlox) - This makes me think that the evaluation of this band might possibly have 'slipped through the net'. Might be worth someone double checking that all is in hand? Ermm

I've tried to add them to PF, but Malaysia is not in the list of countries, and if I leave the country blank, it defaults to the Estonian Phlox, and won't let me add them.

I'll contact PF after work, and see if he can work it out.  Maybe just add Malaysia

Does entering just a question mark (?) in the field for 'country' work - as appears to have happened with this Italian RPI band: http://progfreak.com/Absenthia-93649.html" rel="nofollow - http://progfreak.com/Absenthia-93649.html ?

And just to prove it to The World: http://progfreak.com/Phlox-154334.html?path=pa/recent" rel="nofollow - http://progfreak.com/Phlox-154334.html?path=pa/recent   Thumbs Up
(For the benefit of nescafe726 - the chart that this link leads to will gradually fill up with (hopefully) little green 'tick' icons as the members of the team vote. There are five members of the Crossover team, so once you see three little green ticks in the chart you can go out and buy yourself a bottle of champers ready to celebrate your eventual addition to the archives. If you see little red 'cross' icons suddenly appearing in the chart, however, I'd probably opt for a bottle of Absinthe instead... Evil Smile )

No, you're good. It's up to the team now to decide whether they think you are a fit for Xover.
Like David mentions, you are of course free to follow the eval process at Progfreak using that link of his, but you or the band don't have to do anything

Thanks Frank.

Phlox is Ahmad on drums, Hanafi on electric guitar, Syazwan on bass and Hakim on keyboards and vocal. The band met in 2008 at Kuala Lumpur. Hakim and Ahmad are brothers and they both quit university to form a band. They met Syazwan during a futsal match and few months later Syazwan introduced Hanafi who is Syazwan's room mate during their college time. The band first has been influenced by bands such as The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Coldplay. Their first EP was released early 2009 with 5 songs andhelp of a female vocalist named Shehnaz who is friend's of Hakim. The band grew their influence deeply when they discovered a lot of progressive, psychedelic, krautrock and space rock bands such as Ash Ra Tempel, Genesis, David Bowie, Yes, Jefferson Airplane, Astra, Grails and more. Later, their first album "Quiver" has been released on December 2011. They have now pursuing to art rock and believe that this is the best way to express their music.

*Currently they are recording some new songs for new concept EP titled YWNTS. The single has been released early September 2012 called "The Unknown".

Were they really rejected from Crossover?  Not even a "move"?  I find this perplexing!
Perhaps once this new album is released they can be re-evaluated; perhaps for space/psych this time, especially based on the above clip!!

'Quiver' certainly shows a lot of vintage psychedelia, concerning structure and implementation the songs are not clearly prog though, often closer to alternative/indie bands as for my impression.

The new 4 track single YWNTS definitely marks a leap forward to a proper prog fundament due to the improvisational impact in the vein of the early experimental Pink Floyd (Ummagumma), excellent stuff!

However I personally would prefer to wait for the full-fledged album before coming to a final conclusion.

Having listened to the new stuff as well, I am in agreement with Uwe.
However, I understand the folks out there who believe that Phlox deserve to be on PA, but sometimes we come across artists who are damn hard to pinpoint. Some times it takes time to find the right box.
To my ears, Phlox are not psych/space. Effervescent synthesiser qualities much like you'd hear in Richard Barbieri's playing some 15 years ago doesn't necessarily space rock make.
I will however be looking forward to the new album to see what's what, because I do hear some psychedelic tendencies emergingSmile

If Crossover is a better fit, I'm all for that.  But they definitely need to be on PA somewhere.

Two most excellent items of news!
I am listening right now, and will be ordered as soon as its done.

You guys might want to list your musicians on the bandcamp page to make it easy for someone to add.
