7) On Reflection
6) In a Glass House
5) The Runaway

It's amazing how many great songs I had to leave out. It's also amazing how Octopus, maybe their strongest album, doesn't contribute a single song. That's how good this band is.

Always tough to think of a GG list because they just have so many great tunes. It's really astonishing to actually look back on all those albums and rarely find a bum song, or a song out of place.

1. The Runaway
2. On Reflection (Live versions in particular)
3. The Advent Of Panurge (Live versions as well)
4. The Edge Of Twilight
5. In A Glass House
6. Proclamation
7. Experience
8. Raconteur Troubadour
9. His Last Voyage

I think it's a testament to this band's consistency that all these lists have so little in common. For most other bands, there's a short list of tracks that are on almost everybody's list. Not for Gentle Giant.

Just turned on The Runaway and the volume was a bit LOUD! Nearly busted my eardrums.
But a top 10... I could really pick every song from Octopus but I'll go:
1. The Runaway
2. Proclamation
3. The House, the Street
4. Peel The Paint (love when it gets heavy!)
5. The Boys In The Band
6. Raconteur
7. Free Hand (I'm not good with orders, Free Hand is just about my favorite album by them. But it's impossible to put these songs on a 'top' anything!
8. In A Glass House
9. Pantagruel's Nativity (that really has a weird sound to it)
10. Just The Same

And can I just say how amazing this band is? A round of applause for Gentle Giant! Clap

Listening to In A Glass House again (the full album, of course) and I realize "How did In A Glass House not get on my #1??" so that's my #1 Gentle Giant song. Don't know where to move The Runaway so I'll just leave it at that!

I have seen it mentioned a couple of times, but The House, The Street, The Room is perhaps my favorite GG track. I think it needs more sugar.

Man, this is tough! ... This list may change tomorrow, so try to avoid those "carved-in-stone" assumptions in your heads.

In no particular order:

Three Friends
Schooldays
Mister Class And Quality
Prologue
On Reflection
So Sincere
His Last Voyage
Working All Day
The Moon Is Down
Peel the Paint

------- Honorable mentions go to: -------

Proclamation
Acquiring the Taste
An Inmate's Lullaby

No real order, and subject to change:

The Runaway
Just The Same
Empty City
The Moon is Down
Funny Ways
Playing The Game
In a Glass House
A Reunion
Prologue
Two Weeks in Spain

Gentle Giant are definitely one of the best bands for openers.

Holy crap! Think Of Me With Kindness only two times!? I think its the one of most beautiful songs in the whole universe

Posted By: HarbouringTheSoul

I used to dislike "Think of Me with Kindness" and call it the only bad song they did until "Timing". I'm glad I changed my mind, because it really is a beautiful song, although I'm not too fond of the trombone/trumpet (?). I think the song would have benefitted from either a fuller arrangement with multiple horns and maybe even strings or a very sparse one with only piano and voice.
