Sankara came together in late 2010, when singer Gareth Jones (ex-The Reasoning) and guitarist Jay MacDonald (ex-Bluehorses) got together with the intention of writing music that they love playing. After a few demo songs were tracked, they realised they were on to a great opportunity, and asked drummer Vinden Wylde (ex-The Reasoning) and bassist Rhayn Jooste (ex-Bluehorses) to join them in search of Fortune and Glory. The four founder members worked really well together and found that as they all had different influences, they could bring something unique to the band.

In October 2011 they released the Enigma EP. This four track offering allows a gentle introduction and a promise of what is to come.

In December 2011 they released the Tori Amos song Precious Things. This cover version is a favourite of all the band and features in the live set.

From the short samples on Amazon this promises to be a very fine Melodic Rock/AOR album with perhaps just a hint of prog, but we won't know for sure unless someone who already has the CD (yes, there are some circulating following the band's appearance at the Cambridge Rock Festival last month), or the band themselves, can provide samples for the team (It'll almost certainly be Crossover who get to evaluate this) to listen to.

Again, this music is very well crafted Melodic Rock/AOR, great to listen to, but rather weak on the prog side.

Have matters changed sufficiently with the new material to make him change his view, I ask...

 

The band is from Cardiff, Wales, so maybe Steve (lazland) knows more about them?

 

Bass player Rhayn Jooste actually left the band in early August, just after the C.R.F. gig, and as far as I know has not yet been replaced.

 

Until we have full samples of 'Guided By Degrees', there's not much more we can do with this at the moment to be honest, so we await further input, as the saying goes...

Hmmm very nice, but is it prog...?  

The YouTube samples here are very much good melodic classic rock. Having said that, much of The Reasoning's is too, although, to be fair, the prog influences with that venerable band shine through far more than this.

I would agree with David here. Let's have some samples of the new album, and I will lend a sympathetic ear.

The team will need to move quite quickly on this, as the recording of the show will be taken down just before next week's is due, and I don't know of any other free sample sources.

Definitely belongs on here in my view, but not sure about the sub - it's a mix of Crossover, Neo and a bit of Heavy to my ears. Has a quite a strong Hard Rock/AOR feel in places too I suppose, but this is really quite excellent stuff on balance - hopefully there'll be enough prog overall to satisfy the judges.

I couldn't get the scroll bar to work on my computer (the 'now playing' info popped up and masked it out everytime I moved the mouse over the player to try to move it), so the last three titles weren't immediately accessible - I had to wait for them to load automaticlly one by one in sequence after track seven had finished playing. Small matter really though.

Well it does begin with http:// and it does work in a new browser window, so what exactly is wrong here I ain't got a clue.

 

Tried with both IE9 and Google Chrome and same thing happened. Never had this problem adding an artist before, so hopefully someone else will have better luck!

 

Anyhow - borderline case for Crosssover, I expect. The music is probably going to be considered too much slanted toward Classic Rock/AOR for this site, but hopefully the team will go through the motions, and we can then draw a line under the case.
