Both highly rated on both Prog Archives and Rate Your Music, both have very close ratings. Listened to each of them tonight. Both great, four star albums for me.

No fair!  Two great albums.  Have to think about this a while.  Hmmmmmm.  Geek  Ahhhhhhhhhhh, yes.  No, wait.  Confused  But then...  And...  Hmmmmm.  Lamp  Yeah! That's it.  Nursery Cryme.  Small margin.  Now, the next question:  Which has the creepier cover art?

I'd say at a short glance, Hackett, but after looking at them for a while Nursery Cryme.

Nursery Cryme is special being my first Prog album ever, but my vote goes to Mr. Hackett....Voyage is otherworldly....

The one with the croquet mallet girl on the cover, but the other one is also excellent.

On a sidenote: yeah, I see the mis-alignment too.

About Nursery Cryme I always thought "The musical box" and "The fountain of Salmacis" are much better than the rest which is.... well...good but not the best prog I've heard. Hackett's debut is a little more consistent but doesn't reach the heights of those two songs. Anyway it's Hackett for me by a tiny bit.

Nursery Cryme: 5 stars
Voyage of the Acolyte: 4.5 stars (probably the best solo effort of a former Genesis member, together with Anthony Phillips' Wise after the Event).

No solo album by any band member is better than any Hackett/Gabriel Genesis album. So Nursery Cryme

'Voyage' is indeed a good album.
But for me 'Nursery' is in a higher league.
Let's say for fun that 'Voyage' is a 'Europa Cup' album, and 'Nursery' is 'Champions League' one.. Tongue

pretty much agree with everyone else. Unfair to compare Hackett's solo work to a classic Genesis record. But Voyage is still fantastic.

Completely agree. Voyage is a very good 4* album but Nursery Cryme is 5* beyond doubt. Spectral Mornings is the only other solo album by a Genesis member to even bear comparison with it.

Nursery Cryme.  Never was a big fan of Acolyte.  I like Hackett's next two albums more.

Voyage of the Acolyte by a very long way. I've said this in the past; Nursery Cryme sounds like s**t. Interestingly, the versions of the NC songs on Steve Hackett's new Genesis revisited II sound very much improved. I always thought they should revisit this album and record it again it was so dreadful sounding the first time!!!

Nursery Cryme. But I would vote for Hackett against Foxtrot

Nursery Cryme is possibly Genesis best album. In a way it's more consistent than Voyage, but Voyage has other qualities that Cryme doesn't have - they are two different records. Both great and incomparable. No vote.

Nursery Cryme by far - a Prog milestone. Voyage bores me half of the time. Sorry. Cool The production gets me.

Voyage for me. The only song I really love on Nursery Crime is The Music Box, and well, most of the short songs are nice too. But the other 2 long songs are really annoying. On Voyage, I like Shadow of the Hierophant at least as much as Music Box, plus just about all of the album is very nice listen.
