Here are a bunch of monster tracks that (intentionally or not) seem mightly indebted to Pink Floyd. (The exceptions would be Fleetwood Mac's "Albatross," which had a huge influence on Gilmour's spacey, bluesy solo style, and Dylan's original version of "Masters of War.")  I could only list 25, or else I might have added yet more tracks.

On a second note, which track(s) do you think should be on this list? :-) Cheers!

I was going to suggest anything by Eloy, some Gong tracks... Who was that band some years back tagged as "the new floyd"?

My favorite out of this list is "Nimrodel", but Poseidon's Creation comes close.

Voted for Nimrodel, but I didn't see Starless there at first, otherwise I would have voted for that.

Honorable mention for the AParsonProject's "Time", such a pretty song it is.

I love that Tangerine Dream track on the list. I suppose the lushness of it is a bit like Floyd in some respects.Soaring guitar was a bit unusual at that time for TD.The drummer is much better than dear ole Nick though!

Starless is one of my favourite tracks of all time, of course, but I'm giving my vote to my beloved Sigur Ros - spread the love for this band! Bowdown

Eloy wins this for me. But I have found another track which fints perfectly on this list: a Meddle-era Pink Floyd atmosphere with vocals which are somehow strongly reminiscent of David Gilmour:

The Queensrÿche and PT tracks are also rather floydish. Silent Lucidity has a strong Roger Waters-feel.

Ocean Cloud, very Floydian. Starless is in no way Floydian IMO.

"Silent Lucidity" seems like an intentional ripoff of "Comfortably Numb."

you don't think so? The first time I heard it, it reminded me very strongly of Floyd (and so *unlike* anything else in the KC discography, at least until the long solo section comes in). The beat of it particular - that kind of slow, de de DAH shuffle in 4/4 found on classic Floyd tracks like "Atom Heart Mother" (at the 10:23 mark, when Gilmour's solo comes in). Brilliant tune, anyway :-)

Wow, I would never have guessed that was Anekdoten. So different from everything else I've heard by them, which is usually very King Crimson-esque. There we go, another band making that King Crimson-Pink Floyd link LOL Clap

Let's kill this "Mostly Autumn are like Pink Floyd" thing. Sure, they adore Floyd and were influenced to play music by them but, unless Floyd released a load of tracks I've never heard with female vocals, flute, violin, Uillean pipes, tinged by Celtic folk, I don't find their music very similar. Oh, sorry, Brian Josh plays a bit like Dave Gilmour and their record company promoted them (unwisely) as "The New Pink Floyd". And Rick Wright and Dave Gilmour liked them (a lot) and they released an album of Pink Floyd covers. That means MA are Floyd clones. Does it ****.  But I love both bands.

As for Nimrodel, this is not remotely like Floyd either.

But my favourite IS a Mostly Autumn track which does sound a bit Floydian in mood (though not execution) and that's The Night Sky from their debut. Sensational.

Indeed. I never thought of it as Floydian, more like Royal Crimsonian, but in the given list Starless would be my favorite song

Yeah, you might be right! There's little moments where I briefly think of Floyd, maybe in the sort of hazy drowsy vocals, but not a lot else.

I don't know if I would call it Floydian or not, but Blade Runner Blues is an exquisitely moody piece, head and shoulders above the rest of these, and there are some great tracks here!  After that, I would go with Eloy, Camel, and King Crimson, in that order.

Went with PT. A lot of their earlier stuff owes much to Floyd. You could have included a bunch of RPWL tracks, especially from Trying to Kiss the Sun and World Through My Eyes. They too owe much to Floyd.

Voted Nimrodel because Starless is pure King Crimson, not Floydian.
Mostly Autumn have a lot of more Floydian (and better) songs.
I have never thought of Blade Runner Blues as Floydian, but effectively it can be.

However this poll would be a fantastic playlist.

Gandalf's Fist- "The Council of Anderson" and Airbag's "Never Coming Home" are PF tracks literally!
On this list there are many but Anathema's "Emotional Winter" rules. Though Mostly Autumn's "The Night Sky" is perhaps the best of them all!

I'm going to just crack without listening to all of them and vote for Vangelis' "Blade Runner Blues". What is it that you people say here? "It has a very special place for me" or something like that?

If ever there a better combination of images and music, I've yet to hear/see it. The version of The Night Sky is slightly different to that on For all we Shared - it's off one of the compilations and is remixed and improved (hard to believe) and the guy who does the visuals is brilliant. Put it on before you go to bed and you'll be perfectly relaxed.

My vote goes to....oh, I don't know. For a start, I wouldn't regard Starless as being remotely Floydian, nor Ocean Cloud for that matter.
