I'm expecting "Money" to run away with this one, but, with such a diverse selection of songs this could be interesting.

Something like this:

1. Us And Them
2. Any Colour You Like
3. The Great Gig In The Sky
4. On The Run
5. Breathe
6. Money
7. Eclipse
8. Time
9. Brain Damage
10. Speak To Me

Yep, Time's that low - never really got all the hype over that song. I'm not even big on the guitar solo either - Dave's got so many better ones. Big smile

It's really between Time and The Great Gig In The Sky. I'll go with the later, one of the most unique songs in the Floyd's catalogue, Roger is doing a great job on the bass there, simple and beautiful.

"Time", but if it didn't contain a reprise of "Breathe", I would have a hard time deciding between the two. This way, "Time" gives me both in one package.

Ticking away at the moments that make up a dull day.  Time is perhaps the most iconic song on this album - certainly its opening is the most iconic section.  Still, I think of it as a total immersion experience - to get the most out of it, you cannot extract any one track out of the album.  Full length listening is mandatory.  Anything otherwise is just a waste of time.  I am not surprised at the poor showing of Money - for many proggers and musicians it is a low point on the album.  Me, I think it's a great tune, but not my favorite.  I would also put Us and Them above it.

Time.  It has one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded.  2nd place to Us and Them, a goosebump song.

I almost wanted to vote for "On the Run", because I really think that track is super cool and I never get tired of it like I do the other tracks.  But honestly, it's not my favorite.

ended up with Any Colour You Like mostly cause it's one of the few tracks that I can listen to on its own without feeling bad, I've often told people when listening to that song that "this is what LSD feels like" haha.

otherwise, my favorite songs would be Breathe and Time by far.

I find this one rather difficult. For one thing, I agree that this album is best when heard complete. On the other side, I find it very difficult to choose between Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, Us and Them, and I would consider Brain Damage and Eclipse as the same song, and as such I'd include them in the list. However, I guess I'll go with Us and Them. And as far as Money goes, it's also among my least liked on the album, and I kind of would have expected it to do poorly here.

I think Money was epic in it's day and a bit like ' Stairway To Heaven' has suffered a bit from overplay. Us and Them for me but Great Gig and Any Color You Like come close

I think "Money" is a great song, but as somebody who wasn't alive in the 70s and has never been exposed to 'classic rock' radio stations, it hasn't been overplayed for me either. I suspect that the relative dislike for the song here is mainly a reaction to that overexposure. I for one think it's a much stronger song than, say, "Brain Damage" on any level. A good riff, a unique rhythm and a much more memorable vocal melody. Nothing stands out about "Brain Damage" for me except the lyrics.

Just checking the poll for the first time: WoW! Big surprise! I guess we progsters are outside of the pop-preferences group!

Glad to see Great Gig getting some loving, too! It is simply an astounding, timeless (no pun intended) song. But then, Time's drum intro and Gilmour soarings are also incredible highs.

I remember in college my roomy and I would listen to DSotM Side 2, starting after Money almost every night to help put us to sleep. Awesome album.

Thanks for the responses!!

Speak To Me and Eclipse both with no votes?  These two short pieces bookend the entire album - the first has elements of the whole thing in capsule form, and the last has the perfect summing up.  I voted for Eclipse.
Apart from those two, I would've voted for On The Run, which was decades ahead of its time

The problem for me with Eclipse is that it doesn't work so well alone, I must hear it together with Brain Damage.

Us and Them for me. I've gotten tired of most of the album as many times as I've heard it (blasphemy in most circles, I know, but it's true). Us and Them just resonates more with me emotionally than the other tracks. time and Any Colour You Like I'm still fond of too, though.

A wonderful album which was way ahead of it's time.  The production even on the original version is miles better than you'll find on other releases of that time.

As to the poll, I'll go with Any Colour You Like.  Next would be Eclipse.

In truth the whole thing is brilliant, and 30odd years after I first heard it I still love it just as much, if not more.

Never liked the production much (although 1973 was a funny year in that respect as I couldn't pick anything from that year that I particularly like from a production point of view).

I only began to really appreciate this album when I heard it played live by Roger Waters a few years ago On The Run was especially scary stuff at Birmingham NEC. An album to play loud imo.

VERY interesting article contain many facts & much trivia about the album:
