These are the lowest rated studio albums by the 'big six' of prog on PA. I don't agree with all these albums being the 'worst' of each but those are your options.

I like half of Beat. OYE is horrible. ELPs effort is worse. I haven't heard the Tull album and I like most of the Genesis and PF albums. PF by a little bit because Anything She Does is the worst song the G men released. And yes, I have heard Whodunnit.

I didn't vote for it, but I do enjoy the album. At least they did something different on it. So many artists and bands get so wrapped in what they should sound like, they neglect expanding their sound. Different is not always an improvement, but for longtime fans such as myself I do like to see them mix it up a little bit. I stopped seeing them live because I got tired of paying good money to see the same concert over and over again.

Not just that. It was so important to Victory that the album be a success that they interfered too much. Hiring songwriters, musicians and a producer that would not allow the longer epic they had planned. It's a shadow of an ELP album. Has some good moments though.

I've never heard Under The Hot Seat or In Wraps. I can think of three Genesis albums I would rate lower than Touch. I've always thought Eyes gets unfairly bashed although it's nothing special. AMLOR was always the worst thing released under the 'Pink Floyd' name I've thought. Beat is a lot better than TOAPP.

I don't even consider Beat to be KC's worst album. Of those I vote Beat.
Posted By: Warthur
Date Posted: March 03 2013 at 19:02
Keep in mind I haven't even heard all of these - some of them (like Open Your Eyes) are sufficiently deep into lukewarm periods for the bands in question that I just haven't bothered to check them out, especially considering all the bad press they get.
That being understood, my vote is for Beat, simply because it reeeeeeeeally doesn't deserve the miserable rating it's got. I found The Construction of Light to be markedly worse (I'd rather have KC experimenting slightly outside the bounds of prog than KC going through the motions), and as for it having an average rating over 0.80 points below Islands or In the Wake of Poseidon? Nah, dudes, come on, Beat wasn't that bad and those two albums weren't that amazing.

If Larks' Tongues was on here I would have voted for it but it's by no means the worst KC album (actually their best ) I think you need to read the poll. Beat was the KC album on here not Larks' Tongues or Easy Money(the song is annoying, I don't despise that much though). I prefer Invisible Touch any day over Beat . "I need to feel your heartbeat, so close it feels like mine" . For KC to do something like that is truly . I know I know they supposedly evolve with every Era(when in reality they change line-ups like babies get their diapers changed). I think you guys really need to get over me not liking KC, big deal. On the original post I said nothing that implied King Crimson, it's all inside your heads

You are not alone, Jim! I always liked that album, the plastic , spooky Vettese synths are simply wonderful. I just have to evade purist tomatoes tossed at me when I state I love that album. Big fan of Ian's first solo album too, the Walk Into Light, a perfect companion!

I've only heard three of these. Invisible Touch is where Genesis took a turn for the cheesy, and it's pretty mediocre, but I do like "Land of Confusion" and "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" is also okay. A Momentary Lapse of Reason is also fairly mediocre overall, but it does have some decent material on it ("Learning to Fly", "One Slip", "Yet Another Movie"). So I guess I'll go for Beat, which is not mindblowing (certainly the weakest of the 80s album) but rather solid overall.

Beat isn't the worst Crimson album, but rather The Construkction of Light. However, I've chosen it.
EDIT: Also Genesis' worst album isn't Invisible Touch but Calling All Stations, is it?

Momentary Lapse of Reason for me, with Invisible Touch as a close second.

Beat is not even a bad album, so I'll choose this one.

Well, for me Genesis worst album would be Abacab, I really didn't find anything enjoyable on that one, except for Dodo. Invisibla touch hade some few (pop) songs that I really liked, and even some that have some prog on them. Even Calling all stations had "The Dividing Line", which I liked a lot.

I never noticed that till now, I'll blame it on texting. Apparently no one likes that album anyway so who cares.

Those were the lowest rated albums when I made the poll.

Truedats !! Only the opening tune (in 9/8 time) was enjoyable, and perhaps the luke-warm rendition of Pictures at an Exhibition - the rest is bland and uninspired to my ears. Very disappointing after the very good 'Black Moon' album.

Invisible Touch, which is quite a good pop album, with some nice prog tendencies at some places.

Beat is a good album, but I find myself listening to Momentary Lapse of Reason a lot more.

There are parts of Invisible Touch which are amazing, specifically Domino and The Brazilian; Tonight, Tonight, Tonight isn't too bad either. I really like Side 2 of Momentary Lapse, with Side 1 being just ok. Beat is a decent enough album but my least favorite from the 80's trilogy, although Neal and Jack and Me is one of my favorite Belew-era songs.
In the Hot Seat and Open Your Eyes make very nice beer coasters and also double as frisbees/throwing weapons when the need arises.
Tough choice really but I'm going to go with Lapse because while IT reaches some incredible heights it also reaches some incredible lows, Lapse on the other hand has some great music and some ok music, but nothing absolutely terrible. Beat has nothing too bad, but aside from the song I mentioned has nothing that really knocks me out either.
Oh and aside from the dreadful "Lap of Luxury" I've not heard anything off of Under Wraps and it will probably remain that way.

KC - Beat. I don't like it much, but it's the best on the list.
I saw Tull during their Under Wraps tour. They're always great to see live, even when they put out a dud.
