My three current favorites by the Swans are all live albums, very unusual for me (Swans Are Dead, Body to Body, and the latest live one with the long title). But of the studio albums, I'll go with The Seer.

Pretty tough to decide, but in the end I went with Children Of God. It was my introduction to the band, and it pretty much blew my mind back in the day. It's got a nice mix of everything, from the sparse, pretty and eerie "In My Garden" to the delirious insanity of "Beautiful Child". |

I've only dabbled with a few of these releases and I like some of what I hear. On description alone it is a band I should like, but the crushing, hollow darkness and intense despair is a bit hard to deal with. I'm certainly not the sunniest guy on the planet, but if anyone of you could point me towards an album where the permafrost isn't quite so deep, I'd be most grateful. My first experience with them was My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky, and of the three I have (this, TGA and Seer), it continues to be my favorite. Plus you just have to love that album title! ------------- -- Frank Swarbrick Belief is not Truth. |
