This may be the hardest to choose from... I'll meditate a bit and come back with my vote !

This.

Permanent Waves would be my second choice, and A Farewell to Kings third.

I'm not a fan of Moving Pictures except for Tom Sawyer and YYZ; it's bland and uninteresting imo.

Moving Pictures, with PW in second.  Not incredibly fond of the other two, though when it comes to Rush I pretty much like all of it to some degree.

Hemispheres easily. Permanent Waves not too far behind.

A Farewell to Kings contains their best track ever (Xanadu), the others I consider masterpiece albums with Hemispheres having the lead, closely followed by Moving Pictures.

Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, then Farewell to Kings.

Went with "A Farewell to Kings".  It was my 1st Rush album and I remember being completely blown away by the finish to Cygnus X-1 and the disturbing/disquieting chord arpeggios on the fade out.  Brilliant way to end an album and still gives me the chills.

Permanent Waves is probably my favourite Rush album, so that. That whole early 80's era was just prime. Some of greatest tunes laided on track.

Their best period!  I vote for my first Rush album, Hemispheres, which is still one of my favorites.

Hemispheres is one of those albums that gets far too much praise for my liking. La Villa Strangiato and The Trees are superb but the rest I don't care for.

The excellent Permanent Waves seems like a rehearsal for the all time classic and unique Moving Pictures. One of the last truly great moments in prog history. I really like Farewell To Kings as well which is Rush's second best album imo.

Hemispheres, followed closely by A Farewell to Kings.

It is difficult, but I revert to Moving Pictures as my favourite Rush album. A perfect blend of hard rock, progressive rock, and power pop/rock. Genius.

I wonder how many people's favorite overall Rush album is not from this period.

I love all these albums, but the songs "Vital Signs," "The Camera Eye" and "Limelight" (with one of my favorite guitar solos ever) are the reasons I go for Moving Pictures over Hemispheres' Side 1 and the superb Permanent Waves. Alex's best guitar tone ever, too (followed up by Geddy's best-ever bass tone on Signals).
