Athanor is the project of the multi-instrumentist Cédric Marcucci. It had been founded in 1992 as a cover band (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix), but evolved into a Zeuhl around 1996, after having discovered Magma, Weidorje, Xaal or Soft Machine. This first version of Athanor disbanded in 1998.

In 2008, Cédric Marcucci recorded the demo "Vulv'Air" under the moniker Athanor, using electronic tools, lacking the means to record it "live".
After a few years of work, Athanor had recorded a first album, "Vos cités seront des tombeaux", released by the label Le Chęne Creux.
You can hear 10 tracks from this album, the 2008 Vulv'Air demo (and download it) and a first demo from 1996 on the website of Le Chęne Creux:

Athanor claims influences from Magma, Weidorje, Présent, Univers Zéro, Art Bears and Henry Cow, influences that can be heard on their album: subtle and dark arrangements with active rhythms.

Note that Cédric Marcucci is also involved in other projects which could fit in the PA database (check them on the website).

Okay, this case had been cleared. But when will the band be added to the database? I can try to write a bio for them.

Here comes what I've written so far (hope it's good enough to be published):

"ATHANOR is a French Zeuhl / R.I.O. / Avant-prog band created by drummer Cedric Marcucci back in 1992 when he was a teenager.

The first version of the band started as a cover band, until Marcucci, guitarist Alexis Krentner, bass player Hugues Neumeyer and keyboard player Jérémie Tisseyre began to write songs influenced by Magma, Weidorje, Present, Univers Zero or Soft Machine.

This line-up only recorded a few demos before splitting up in 1998.

Cedric Marcucci relaunched Athanor in 2008 as a solo project, using electronic interface to record a first virtual album, Vulv'Air (available as a free download on the website of his label Le Chęne Creux).

He gathered various musicians for Athanor's next album : Vos cités sont des tombeaux (''Your cities are graves''), released in 2012 by the label Le Chęne Creux. This album benefits of the participation of violonist Fabienne Gay, pianist Henri Hertemann, saxophonist Laurent Rochelle, singer Natacha Brouat... among many others, allowing Athanor to use new methods of composition, improvisations and musical montages."
