Ok, for this one I thought I'd do things a little differentBig smile
I have a thing for overt bad taste cover arts, so here I've gathered 25.

Tricky thing about the poll though, is that do you vote for the one you find the most funny, ugly - or both? Or the one you like the most?
You choose peopleTongue

Here are the contestants:

Missus Beastly is terrifically tacky, terrible, and tasteless. Also all-out amusing.

Worst?: It's between Guru Guru and Omega for me. Voted Omega, because.

I actually like:
Birth Control - Operation
Eeeet da bebehs!!!

Panta Rei - Panta Rei
A tad creepy.

Pôle - Rizet
So daggy and retro that it's actually cool in its own way. What kind of music is contained within?

Samla Mammas Manna - Måltid
Hey one I've actually heard! Yeah, I like the cover

Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention - Weasels Ripped My Flesh
Another one I've heard! The album art is a decent parody of that magazine cover or whatever it was.

Eulenspygel - 2
I've seen this one on a few "worst album covers" lists. I think the cover art is really good, but that's just me. Very strange. Makes me wanna check out the album some time.

National Health - National Health
Slightly an "odd one out" inclusion to me but I guess I can understand if someone would find it a bit lame. I personally like the cover.

Like I said, you're free to vote on whatever grounds you find adequateTongue A lot of these I happen to like myself. The Operation art work is great - so is Nevergreen! and Måltid and Eulenspygel. Yep I could literally go on and onLOL

The music you'll find in that Rizet album is a blend of electronic experimentations, psych and avant-guarde. It bears absolutely no connotations to the cover art.

I actually like the Catipilla, Birth Control, Eulenspygel, Octopus and Peter Hammill covers listed here. Fireballet gets the nod for worst of the bunch here, and there are some bad ones. Finally, I don't know quite what to think of The Lovers. Never quite saw a cover like it (except on DVDs in the back of the videoshop).

LOLYep Ya Ho Wa has some of the most bizarre covers. The one featured underneath with the people flexing their longbows next to the gangsta ride, is beyond ridiculous.

Now you know how to look when you make that avant-guarde Berlin School album...

Also if this poll didn't need to be in the prog section here, then I'd definitely have included this little saucy thing:

But the Fireballet and Missing Link are truly bad. I'll go with the latter here, because the former could at least be considered an attempt at humor.

Dave, there sure sre some real shockers in this lot - I only have 10 of these titles - I would say I can't stand the cover to Brainstorm's 'Smile A While' - I just don't dig blokes dressing up as women, not even in fun - just doesn't sit well with me.  The music is awesome though. However, one of the most pointless covers I've ever seen is the 'Hawklords' album - the one with the grey cover with pink writing.  Bizarre.

Some of them are just tasteless but professional, while some other look bland and unprofessiona.
And, frankly, the cover for Omega's album looks like it had been made by a band from an obscure suburb in Kansas, with a very, very low budget, shooting their group picture in a 2 dollar photo studio!
Fireballet and Brainstorm hadn't put great efforts in their coverart, but they tried something. It's goofy, but Omega just looks like they hastily paste a promotional picture on an astrological map from their school book!

I was also close to vote for Acid Mothers Temple, whose cover seems to be made with Photoshop in one (1) minute!

Nick, I strongly suggest you check out the late 80's Van Damme flick `Cyborg', where he takes on these futuristic pirates! About 30 mins in JCVD's companion takes her top off, and I kid you not, you'll be screaming at the screen for her to put it back on. Now, I'm not some guy with massive expectations on how a lady should look, I appreciate the female form in all shapes and sizes, but it just wasn't a good idea here!

Oh, and for my vote, probably Brainstorm's drag-tastic `Smile A While' cover gets my tick here, luckily the album is a total knockout!

Voted for Fireballet, not only because the art was so awful but the album within betrayed the great prog they released on "Night on Bald Mountain"...

OTOH, I've always loved the covers for "The Future Now" and "Weasels Ripped my Flesh"...

That Ya Ho Wa was quite horrible, but I still went with AMT.
That's mainly because their discography is filled with these nude women and horrible photo-shopping.
Just look at Wild Gals A-Go-Go or Pink Lady Lemonade, those are just horrible.Dead

This one is certainly among the funniest! Looks like a proto-gangsta photo shoot. I mean these guys were literally forerunner to hip hop fashion - only with longbows

Hi,

No vote.

I would rather vote worst cover to something like Abbey Road, than one of these ... why? ... these have some humor in it, and the other is just an intentional inner joke that has nothing to do with the music, except that the folks doing it, have a bit of an ego, and love to show off and make you think that somethings are more important than others!

"Hinten" is interesting, and the cover fits the concept ... rock'n'roll at its "raw'est" and no one will argue the music in there ... or worse ... most folks here won't listen to it, because it doesn't have keyboards! Not progressive! Tongue

Fireballet, I remember when it came out and I laughed hard ... and the first thing I said was ... the music must be as bad as the outfits! Good gawd, even Misha looked better than that! So you knew the music was not serious or important!

You guys forgot Diamond Dogs!

Wow there are some tasteless, lame and disturbing covers here.LOL
That Eulynspigel cover was changed after they sold about 7,000 copies. They just took out the dead chick, so yeah still tasteless.
Never liked that Missing Link cover. It's just poor. Omega's is lame to say the least. Disturbing would go to Guru Guru.LOL
Worst one for me though is Supertramp's cover. Never liked it. My favourite is Catapilla's. Great record too.

The Future Now.
I remember being impressed with that sleeve art when it was released, even though I didn't know who Peter Hammill was at the time.
I wanted to have facial hair like that.
In the last 25+ years I've had various daft facial hair arrangements, but still never done the Future Now one.

Can't understand why the 'Catapilla' cover is included here ??  The LP is a gatefold, with a die-cut front (it's outline is the caterpillar eating the silverbeet) - clever and humourous Big smile.

Can't understand why the 'Catapilla' cover is included here ??  The LP is a gatefold, with a die-cut front (it's outline is the caterpillar eating the silverbeet) - clever and humourous Big smile.

It's the one cover that doesn't seem to belong. I'm guessing that David just has it in for caterpillars. Maybe he was attacked by one.LOL

Peter Hammill The Future Now album cover

But as for awfully bad taste I hate Indelibly Stamped as its so arrogant

but Hinten is dreadful along with Yo Ho Wa and the monkey with the banana

Gotta vote for Hinten as its so ridiculous and funnny

Missus Beastly - s/t. Surely, there are some dismal ones, horrifying ones, which is something I would expect in a horror culture. Some are just f$%king ridiculous to a pathetic degree, but they are not as conspicuously bad as this MB one ... just downright inappropriate wrong. Hurts my eyes. I'm surprised I could even look at it a couple of times for a few seconds without even looking away. Really pretentious (look that word up in Merriam-Webster).

The Supertramp one is the worst here, IMO.

Some of these I like very much. Hinten, Savage Sons of Ya Ho Wa and especially Operation. It's so disturbing! Love it! It gets my vote.

I even still can't figure out what is wrong with the cover. Just a bunch of dudes with a kid sitting 'round a bed, doing stuff on it. What's so insanely bad about it? Is playing chess and making cups of tea on it supposed to be viciously unsanitary?

Yup. Saw that movie. The main villain is really cool in it, but those breasts are not!!! Omg they look like lung warts. I remember that.

Can't let this thread fall off the front page just yet.......
There is an Atomic Rooster album with the cover of a ciggie stumped out in the yolk of a fried egg - it's hideous.  The album is 'Nice And Greasy' - so when the opportunity arose to purchase the U.S. version (entitled 'IV') with a much better artwork - and 2 different tracks..........needless to say.............

There are two cats! There's one his shoulder as well. How does that saying go? A cat on the knee and shoulder keeps the doctor away?
Somebody on YouTube described the album as the perfect present for a woman - a dick in a box, which in all fairness is a pretty darn good description of that coverLOL

The music is very good though. I really dig it:

I've always liked that Samla album cover. It's so mundane. It's just a snapshot of some old couple sitting on a bench. Actually a painting of a snapshot of an old couple sitting on a bench. But that bench isn't anywhere around here. And what is in that bag? Whatever it is he doesn't want to see it. Please don't take that thing out again.

So I voted for it.

Tricky thing about the poll though, is that do you vote for the one you find the most funny, ugly - or both? Or the one you like the most?
