A fan of RATIONAL DIET and many groups from the AltrOck stable, the new/first release from Rational Diet spawn FIVE -STOREY ENSEMBLE, Not This City, is not only the best prog album I've heard from this year but my favorite album--I've been playing it daily for almost two months now! Like SKE's release from 2011, 1000 autunni, when compared to his work with YUGEN, Not This City is not quite as dissonant or abrasive as parts of RATIONAL DIET's work; it is very melodic and yet structured with stunning shifts of mood and beauty. I JUST WISH IT WOULD FIND ITS WAY INTO THE PROGARCHIVES CATALOGUE!!!

It's a superb album and I agree a bit gentler on the ears than Rational Diet. I'm really enjoying the prominence given to Alexander But'ko's accordion and Natalja Malashkova's oboe, which often saturate the pieces in melancholy, jaunty or ominous Balkan atmospheres. The interplay between Olga Podgaiskaja's and Sergey Dolgushev's voices is also great with some real tension and release, the vocals feel integral to the compostions not just decorative afterthoughts.

It could almost be an ECM recording a lot of the time - in a good way. Fans of Dino Saluzzi, Paul McCandless and even Garbarek will get a lot out of it I reckon. Not much rock'n'roll here, it's more like chamber music with moments of rock influence - but it's one of my favourites of the year anyway.

For those that want to check it out, you can listen to the whole thing on progstreaming http://www.progstreaming.com/_wb/pages/play-album.php?activeAlbum=00398%20-%20Five%20Storey%20Ensemble%20-%20Not%20That%20City" rel="nofollow - here .

They banished us!!

But why??

Hell if Five Storey Ensemble aren't prog. By the standards applying around here they're as prog as hell.

EDIT: Did I mention, hell!

Yes, my posting abilities were enhanced by a small quantity of red wine when I wrote the above

My guess is it is simply because they have not yet been added to PA.  I anticipate they will be added soon.

I had the same thing happen to a Rabbit Rabbit Radio thread. Guess those are the rules.

That is correct.

Also, lovely album. I anticipated liking The Archestra more based on initial samples, but I think I prefer this one overall.

I suppose it's probably fallen by the wayside.

You will also see that it was previously suggested direct to your team thread by another Collab.

For some reason we have missed it. There's no track of this band on Progfreak.

I'm guessing your bewilderment here is caused by my statement that I have tried on more than one occasion to alert the powers-that-be as to the arrival and deservedness of this album. I'm not very good at this, but if I were to dig around some (later) I could find three other discussion/suggestion threads similar to this one that I started since May.

Progfreak is where we post artists under evaluation and have a system to vote for or against the addition on PA. If they are not on Progfreak it means that they have never been evaluated,

^ Luca, please, I understand how Progfreak works. I check Progfreak every day and regularly post links to it in the suggestion threads. But it is not my responsibility to add bands / artists to Progfreak. That is up to the teams that use the system.

As for your second sentence, have you checked your team thread?

Thanks for your explanation, but you could simply have bumped your own suggestion thread and I guarantee you would have received a prompt reply.

That said, I can appreciate your frustration. Hopefully you will hear the outcome soon.
