Is it me, or does it seem like a lot of the members here are overly critical, easily-offended liberals? Please note that "a lot" does not mean "all" members. I'd probably like these forums a lot more and be much more active if it had a positive environment.

Not trying to offend anyone, just speaking my mind.

I dunno; I think there are a lot of overly critical, easily-offended conservatives and libertarians as well...

^Not many conservatives, though LOL.

To answer the OP: no.  Every forum or community of any sort will have "overly critical and easily offended" people, but I have found that most of the regulars here are quite intelligent and reasonable folks, and though we disagree on many things we are able, for the most part, to discuss our differences respectfully.  There are exceptions, of course, and it's true that oftentimes the most negative voices are also the loudest.  But if you're willing to engage in discussion and be respectful about it I think you'll find that you can learn a lot from the people here.  I surely have.

Overly critical easily-offended liberals on a Progrock site?   Next thing you'll tell me is that we may have weed smokers here.

What I really appreciate about this forum is that the topics are clear and organized and it's oh-so-easy to avoid the political ones (which I do) because they are specified as such. Look at them at your own risk. Politics destroys music for me.

I'm exactly like Stegor above, it kind of bums me out when I see endless replies in the political sections on here (probably because a lot of it relates to US politics that doesn't concern me `down under' much! ), but I respect how important and fascinating it is to plenty of others.

But I'll see you all pretty much everywhere else!

Yep, avoiding the political threads might help.

I'm with Stegor too.

I stay far away from posting or reading any political discussions on the PA forums because I think it's pointless arguing and a waste of time.  Person A's strong political belief is not going to change Person B's opposite belief no matter how eloquent or convincingly it's stated, so why bother?  I'd rather spend my time talking music.

Speaking of which, I try to read other's posts here always inserting an implied "IMHO" on the first character of the first line Wink

Well, I'm neither a liberal, nor a conservative, but still I'm easily offended and critical - even when dealing with non-political thread.

Especially when dealing with non-political threads.

I've been here for over 8 years. I don't follow stuff everyday like a 'lunatic' (hehehe) but, most of the time you have nice folks and I've found many nice reviewers that you can pay attention to what they write.

But, of course you have the fanboys, the followers of trends and the ones 'you don't know what you're talking about'.

JUst like mentioned before, take a look in which thread you're going and you'll have funand good conversations :D

You get a bunch of disparate people together on an open forum with relatively few restrictions (the restrictions there are, are there for a purpose ) & you get arguments, debates, friendships, fall-outs & the whole gamut of human expression - combine this with the internet phenomenon of the keyboard-hero & voila!

Do you have the same feeling everywhere you look ?

If so i just think you cought the McCarthyflu sickness. Its a highly contagious bacteria attacking the brain, its present all over the world, often found in and around churches and military camps, and spread easily in rural and low educated arears, especialy in the united states.
On the other hand, relatively few outbreaks, have been noted in larger cities and near educational buildings.

I personally am offended by the insinuations made by the OP. This is ridiculous and the thread should be closed.

I actually felt the same way for a while.  I joined in 2009 but didn't visit regularly until late 2011, because my brief visits gave me the impression that this wasn't really a very friendly or fun place.  But once I started sticking around and interacting with people more, I started making friends, and I can see the good side of this place much more clearly now.  There really are all sorts of people here, but sometimes it takes some time to find the people you personally relate to best.

Dunno, I've been here eight years and have always felt this is one of the more civil forums in the digisphere.  But like several people have already said it you have to pick and choose what conversations you want to get involved with and which folks you want to hang out with.

I'm not easily offended by anything a stranger says to me on a forum. I may feel different if it was an actual friend I had made there, and had got to know.

Generally speaking though, why would I care what a stranger thinks about my taste in music or my political views. I couldn't give a sh*t frankly.

As for PA being dominated by over sensitive liberals, I really don't know, but I wouldn't have thought having a liberal outlook on life automatically predisposes one to being over sensitive. Why would it? Sounds like narrow minded conservative bibble to me....

OK, I'll introduce myself, regardless whether I am representative for the PA forum or not, but I've been lurking around actively for some 5 years and getting off the hook has never been on my wishlist yet:

I tend to be not overly critical. I may be easily offended in private life now and then but not on this forum; I cannot remember anyway if I ever reported a forum post for being offensive, I think I never did. I have liberal roots which I cannot deny. Judging by your number of posts, you apparently have not attempted to become more or less familiar with this environment.

So welcome... Handshake Smile

On the other hand, doesn't it mean that you're easily offended by these "easily offended liberals"? Confused

Then, how could we make you feel more at ease? How could we make the "environement" more "positive" according to your ideas?

No trying to offend you, just speaking my mind.

Are you implying that this is all about how Throw Sand feels about forums? It's not like the world revolves around him and we have to adjust the atmosphere of our forum according to his feelings. He politely asked us a question and he deserves an answer.

I'd say this is the best response I've read so far:
