Hello pogheads  ! I made a little poll for Ozric Tentacles' fans in order to see which era of their career is the most appreciated. As the band always changed by transition, I broke their discography into four parts according to the line-up, the style and the sound aesthetics. So we have:- The first era in the late 80's (featuring mainly Ed Wynne g and synts, Joie Hinton synts, Roly Wynne b, Nick van Gelder dr, Paul Hankin percussions). From Erpsongs to The Bits Between The Bits. - The classic era in the early 90's (featuring mainly Ed Wynne g and synts, Joie Hinton synts, Roly Wynne or Zia b, Merv Pepler dr, John Egan flute, Paul Hankin percussions). From Pungent Effulgent to Arborescence. - The third era in the late 90's (featuring mainly Ed Wynne g and synts, Seaweed synts, Zia b, Rad dr, John Egan flute). From Become The Other to Swirly Termination. - The present era (featuring mainly Ed Wynne g and synts, Brandi b and synts, Silas Neptune synts, Ollie Seagle dr). From Spirals in Hyperspace to ... Personnaly I would choose the classic era because it contains Pungent Effulgent, Erpland and Jurassic Shift, all wonderful albums, but strangely I think I prefer the line-up of the third era, there's something very rock inside! |

89-94 is the clear winner for me. Pungent Effulgent, Erpland, Strangeitude, Jurassic Shift and Arborescence are some of my favorites album from the 90's. |

Another vote for "the classic period". Erpland is my fave, and with Sunscape and Iscence, it may well be their most diverse album out of the lot. "Chill out tracks on an Ozrics record? I only know the second era and I love it. This thread gives me the chance to say that tomorrow friday night I'm going to see them live here in Tel-Aviv!

Yes it's the only one for which I hesitated because, as it is almost a Ed Wynne's solo album, I couldn't refer to the lin-up. I thought Spirals in Hyperspace already had the more electro sound of the last albums. |
