Getting into Progressive got me to really love and appreciate the more melodic songs that tend to bring out some emotion (before I was pretty much just a straight up Rocker, and I still have that side of me). A few of my favorites Nights in White Satin - The Moody Blues New Horizons - The Moody Blues Jethro Tull - Aqualung Turn of The Century - Yes And You and I - Yes Soon (Gates of Delirium) - Yes Tears - Rush The Analog Kid - Rush Middletown Dreams - Rush Emotion Detector - Rush Time Stand Still - Rush Us and Them - Pink Floyd Entangled - Genesis Epitaph - King Crimson |

There are just so many that I wouldn't attempt to list what they are for me - it all depends on my mood when listening. Right now a track that is sticking with me relating to emotion and melody is "That Time of the Night" Marillion off of the "Clutching at Straws" album as well as the preceding track "Warm Wet Circles". Emotion and Melody are the two aspects of music that I love a great deal and hence my love for the neo-prog side of the musical spectrum. |

omg i love a majority of these on there, but there's also To Be Over by Yes, The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, Rivendell by Rush, and parts of Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond suite, to name other favorites of mine

Most if not all of my favorite tracks are determined by the level of emotional depth I perceive. Impossible to list all of them, but here's a few that come to mind most easily. There are a lot of Yes songs that have much emotional significance to me. Close to the Edge And You and I To Be Over The Revealing Science of God Into the Lens Wonderful Stories Turn of the Century Onward Hearts Hep Yadda Final Eyes ------------- I am currently digging: Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I think much of the italian prog is full of this emotion just as an example: locanda della fate (or quella vecchia locanda, don't know italian :() - Forse le lucciole no se amano piú Formula 3 - babina sbagliata and the others, like: vdgg- pilgrims refugees the plague of the light house... Neal morse - the ? Album Dream theater - the root of all evil one last time octavarium king crimson - moonchild fallen angel and there's a very emotive song by the brazilian prog-related band 14 bis, that is carrossel. I almost go to tears every time it's played... |

It tends to be the vocals more than the songs so I could pick a whole load of things featuring Greg lake, John Wetton, Pete Nicholls (IQ), Roger Hodgson, Rick Davies and Justin Hayward. The last two also happen to come from my home town which is a nice coincidence. what always works is John Carson when he cries out "does it matter to you" on Arena's "Solomon" ... And for sure Fish belongs to that list with a lot of songs, but probably the most emotional songs are "Cliche" from "Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors" and "Sugar Mice" from his Marillion days. |
