the most obscure of the most popular in my opinion, King Crimson is still one of the ideal prog rock bands out there, especially Mr. Fripp. This next episode will debate the best album of King Crimson's studio output. Who will it be?.....

Red

I'm still collecting KC albums. Power To Believe is also a favourite but I don't have any of the 80's or 90's albums or ConstruKction Of Light.

There's lots of incredible music from KC, but still for me, the only whole album masterpiece is the debut. "The Power to Believe" and "Red" are very close too.

Love the Hicks quotes in your sig, btw. I've been watching some old Hicks routines in the last week; Relentless and Sane Man are superb.

Lark's Tongues, Starless, and Red. Since the middle one had the least votes I gave it mine.

It's not that they aren't good, they're just not as good, according to popular consensus. That being said, I think The Power to Believe is better than Court. I'd say in my opinion it's their 5th best, behind all the Wetton albums and Lizard.

It's not that they aren't good, but that they're very different in sound and approach.  I think their are 5 separate King Crimson's each with it's own unique "look and feel".

I - Art Rock Crimson - In the Court, Poseidon, Lizard, Islands
II - Heavy Prog Crimson - Larks Tongues, Bible Black, Red
III - New Wave Crimson - Discipline, Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair
IV - Double Trio Crimson - Vroom, Thrak
V - Eclectic Crimson - ConstruKtion of Light, Power to Believe

Seems most PA Crimso fans favour the first two editions but that's no reason to think you won't find great music in the rest Wink

My favorite period of Crimson is the Lark Tongues-Red period. That being said, In The Court of The Crimson King is the best overall album they ever did and simply the most stunning debut album by any band ever.
