Which version of the Pokemon games do you like best?
I'm very fond of the originals. There's something about the relative simplicity of it that I love.

I've only played the most recent one (Black 2).  Will be getting X&Y for Christmas.

Man, you're missing out on some great, early games! Gen 1 and 2 are must plays!

What was better about them?  (Honest question, no sarcasm).  I hear this a lot.

Nothing, ignore Gen 1 and for Gen 2 get the remake of HeartGold and SoulSilver. This is coming from someone who plays the game relatively competitively. I'm a fan, but they have no unique aspects besides worse graphic and the nostalgia.

My daughter asked me about Pokemon the other day.  I think a lot of her classmates play and she's wondering what it's all about.  I should send her to talk to you guyz.

The LeafGreen/HeartGold remakes are probably better, but I'll have to vote for the old ones for nostalgia's sake
There was almost a mythic nature about those games back in the day.  I remember in forth grade...
"Get a level 100 Machamp to move the truck behind the SS Anne and you will find a wild Mew!"
That was the rumor everybody what spreading but I tried it.  Didn't work.
Red/Blue/Yellow was just a common thing everyone was playing, talking about, and trying to figure out at the time. Recess was just everyone looking at each other's cards and trading.
I don't think anyone actually used the playground that year... LOL I'd call it 'pokemania'. Just had to be there.

It's still huge.  My son and all his friends trade cards and play the games.  I got sucked into it when he was asking for help because it was not unlike the "D&D" type games I would play as a kid.

Hah. Cool!  I didn't know kids were still big on that.  Hopefully they're not as obsessed as we were.  I think its a pretty fun thing for kids to do, as long as you don't let them watch that horrible tv show!Dead

The newest TV show, Adventures in Unova, isn't too horrible, even though the battles can often be nonsensical,  but Boomerang has re-runs of the older shows and they are indeed quite dire.  I let him watch it, but I also let him know I think it sucks.  LOL

wrong

The unbelievable number of hilarious glitches in the game engine are the reason to play gen 1.  Plus the fact that any pokemon beyond the first 151 are extraneous bullsh*t

MISSINGO

I don't even like the designs for a lot of Gen1, i understand they we're the first - but a lot were kind of lame. Gen 2 has been a favorite of mine, but every Generation has some new ones that are totally cool and totally sh*t.

I won't list my favorite games in order (Thoughts it's Crystal/HeartGold)

Gen 2 > Gen 3 > Gen 1 > Gen 5 > Gen 4

This takes into consideration pokemon, region, gyms, gameplay, difficultly, and all that jazz.

Silver and Gold

Seriously my kids grew up on Pokemon and I have to say I loved them as well. Never was there a time when siblings were in more harmony. So kudos to gameboy and Pokemon for happy times. Loved the original set...you know the cards before Sudawoodo came outSmile Still got Mr.Mime hanging around somewhere

Gen 2 is defiantly a close second for me. Maybe once I play it more in the future it'll win me over. Gen 3 has FireRed and LeafGreen, which are pretty cool, but the main games of 3 are very lackluster. The main games of 4 are a bit better, and HeartGold and SoulSilver are fantastic. Five is kinda meh, and X and Y look horrible to me.

I actually like Gen3 quite a bit. Great pokes and the story is actually kind of cool.
Emerald takes it a bit further with the increased difficult and Battle Frontier.

The one that I've put the most time into is Sapphire with Blue coming in a close second. So I guess I'll go with Gen 3, but I like 1 and 2 just as much.

Who here remembers the truck hoax, or the 'holding down the b button increases your chances of catching a pokemon' hoax?

Word is grinding got ridiculously easy in the new game.  The Exp Share is now a key item and every Pokemon in your party gets experience after a battle.

It's true. I'm indifferent to it, and I don't understand why anyone would hate it...

Grinding is annoying and takes so skill - just time.. So if anything it just helps me get Pokemon I want to use in actual gameplay. Anyone whining that they want to grinding for hours to get a viable team can simple not use it..
It's this stupidity in hating the new Pokemon generations that just makes me laugh. This doesn't even take into consideration the real grinding needed for competitive use.. EV stats. Most people don't know they exists nor really care. It's really just the aspect that makes the game more competitive and adds a component for more Roleplaying aspects.

Do people still manually EV train?

Yea, but it's a little different than grinding. Each Pokemon yields the same amount of Ev points that will contribute to their stats permanently. How to obtain the maximum amount is by defeating certain Pokemon in wild battles. Each species will give you a different amount of a different star. Such as +1 to defense or +3 to special attack. So to properly EV train you'll need to breed for a fresh start, then either exp share level it until it can defend itself or just sacrifice some EVS. For leveling normally. Then it's the trainers decision how the amount of EVa, I think it's 556 or something, will be distributed. You can grind for the maximum amount a single stat can have 257, again exact numbers I haven't memorized, or have a more even distribution, etc etc.

I don't hate the grinding thing, i just don't like the exp for your entire party. The EXP sharer does enough

It would be smarter to have an on and off switch for the party aspect. But I stopped using the EXP share a while ago.
