This is keeping with the theme of all these damn "Trick of the Tail" polls being made recently. So here's two albums to choose from. Which do you prefer?

The Genesis one, but I love them both.

Topographic Oceans by a mile
Trick is a collection of songs - some great - some good - some ok - Topographic Oceans is one of the epic accomplishments in prog history.

Trick is a better album but it is just that... an album.
Tales is boundary pushing.
Can't really compare the two but I do listen to Trick more so I guess that gets my vote!

One of the few matchups where I'd actually choose a Yes album over a Genesis album. (:

Hmmmm....I voted for Trick because imho only side 1 of Yes' Tales is really worth listening to. And I'm not saying that the other sides are bad ....just a bit boring and too long. I think Tales is one of the best examples for editing a double lp down to a longish single lp.

Tales over Tail any day; masterpiece against a merely good album.

I like both albums, but I'll vote for A Trick of the Tail.

Mmm... I guess Trick of the Tail is an easier album to listen to, and to like. And it's got more songs that I like than Tales. But there's nothing on Trick of the Tail that remotley compares to "Revealing Science of God".

I can't say one is better than the other because which one I like the best depends on what kind of mood I'm in....what kind of music I feel like listening to... how much time I have to listen. They are both classic albums. "Tales..." takes longer for the average listener to appreciate, imo.

Love them both but Tales has more moments that make the hair on the back of my neck stand up But agree with what has been said here--Trick easier to listen to--Tales a real prog challenge but worth it.

Quite difficult, both albums are very good but not the best of Genesis/Yes' discography, but on this occasion Tales From Topographic Oceans just about takes it for me

I have much love for Trick and its grounded fantasies but Tales takes me to another plane every time I hear it. I vote Topographic Go-Kart!
Yes has so many fine moments and that one may be the most deep and complex of them all - not best but neither is Tail for to my ears. I feel they hit a better stride on Wuthering but that may have just been the melancholy sound of an era in omega.

There are good moments on sides 2,3,and 4 but imo they just sort of meander at times with uninspired structure. The problem for me is that they are far too long and should have trimmed all 4 songs down to 11 or 12 minutes each and released a single album rather than 4 long sides.
