I love all periods of Yes. I have yet to find a Yes album that I do not like. I do think that their early stuff is my favourite, but I think that Drama should belong in that category too.

-------------
I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

Voting for the "Early Period," but Drama really is a part of that era, too. It was the "final" album by Yes till the resurrection and 90125.

Early, but as others have said Drama really belongs to that era too...from the longer songs to the 1st Roger Dean cover since Relayer, all the Yes fans I knew considered it a return to the mid 70's glory days - albeit without Jon & Rick Wink

Early period.

Yes album
Fragile
Close to the Edge
TFTO
Relayer
Going for the one

It was simply their best and most consistent era imo.

This---nothing better than the progression this group went thru when they had the best musicians in the line up. Amazing period of prog.

Much like Genesis and bands like Rush, Yes became a bit more mainstream but sort of lacked the direction to where they were going with it in the later years. It's got be the early years - come on!

Close to the Edge... Fragile... The Yes Album...  Going for the One... Relayer...

What more do I need to say?... Even Tales and Tormato together don't have enough weight to bring this down,

I had to back to the archived forums for this one, but as with the KC poll, I voted early period with the caveat that the band went through some major changes during this time. Howe only came in on their third album, both paralleling and contributing to the change in direction for the band. Wakeman's advent brought them into their classic sound, but he came and went. Relayer stands out as perhaps their best album and it is Patrick Moraz who helped propel it to that status. After this would be the so-called modern era, but that too is fraught with line-up changes.

The early period no question.

Early period.

The Peter Banks version created some great rock/jazz tracks. "I See You" and "Every Little Thing" are two favorites.

When Howe joined for The Yes Album the group created its first masterpiece.

When Wakeman joined for Fragile, Close to the Edge and Tales..., well, three more masterpieces. Of course, Bruford leaving/White joining after Close to the Edge was a major blow from which the group never fully recovered.

When Moraz replaced Wakeman for Relayer, that, for me, was the last masterpiece of an album from the group.

Indeed the result for this poll was known before anyone started to vote. You would have needed to do some divisions within the first era in order to get more interesting results. I guess line-ups that only did one album would make such a division difficult, but I would have divieded:
- Yes, Time and a Word.
- The Yes Album, Fragile, CttE.
- Tales from Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Going for the One, Tormato, Drama. I'm not really sure about Topographic Oceans being on this period or the previous one. As well as Drama perhaps being on the 80's one. Perhaps even Relayer... it's difficult to make periods here.
- 90125, Big Generator, Union, Talk.
- Open your eyes, The Ladder.
- Keystudio, Magnification.
- Fly from here, whatever they may release next...

I love their 80s material, but it just can't beat the early years.

Yeah, I mean, Yes has never made a whole album as good as the ones I mentioned above. Since then, they did have a few outstanding tracks, like the ones you mentioned.
