Just asking what are everyone's least favourite album names or covers. I never liked the Soft Machine album names that just kept on going up in numbers, and neither with their album covers. The cover for "Third" doesn't fit with the imaginative music and I always associate the dullness of it when hearing the music, which makes the music dull for me... Others in my opinion are Van Der Graaf Generator's album covers like on "H To He, Who Am The Only One" and maybe "Pawn Hearts" too. Also, maybe King Crimson's THRAK and Genesis' Abacab (for both name and cover).

Nice n Greasy by Atomic Rooster must be worth a place in any Worst Album Cover Ever contest. If Rooster fans were having doubts about the band's new "heavy funk" direction in 1973, then of course a cover featuring a cigarette stubbed out in the middle of a fried egg was just what was required to persuade them to shell out for the album. What the *&@k were they thinking?

Twelfth Night – X (1986)

Beneath the grotesque cover illustration is an album of trendy pop music that bears little resemblance to the great progressive rock band Twelfth Night no longer was. (They have since re-embraced their roots after reuniting a number of years ago.)

Richard Wright named his 1978 debut album 'Wet Dream'....?? It was related to his love of sailing the Mediterranean but it's not a good album name.....the cover has nice colours to it but it, too, is not very good.

Have to agree with this. Such a wonderful record and then it's marred by this excuse for a coverConfused
They should've put this one on the front instead:
Not fantastic but a hell of a lot better than the other one imo.

Going for the One is an avarage cover, not that bad per se, but not suitable for Yes' music - the same thing is with Tormato cover.
Though, those two are much worse..

Just my opinion, of course.

I'v always been wondering how it was generally possible that such a cover passes and to destroy that pretty good collection of the songs.

"Going for the One is an avarage cover, not that bad per se, but not suitable for Yes' music...."

I disagree that it is average, but I agree 100% that it is not suitable to the music. In fact when I first heard Wonderous Stories, without having seen the album cover, I envisioned something similar to Fragile or Tales from Topographic Oceans (they are Roger Dean art i think), so I was really disappointed when I finally saw the cover--in fact at first I thought it couldn't be right, like it was a mistake.

As for 90215 and Big Generator, I think they are pretty average covers, Not great, but at least they better represent the music on their albums.

I never understood this title. I remember when it came out, I rather liked the album, but the title and the song were just stupid. It's not even a pun, it's just the wrong word.

The cover wasn't bad, but I remember thinking I could have drawn the portraits better and I was 17 at the time.

When this came out I knew it was time to move on. The '70's were over.Tull always had such a smart visual presence, so woodsy and warm and furry. Here they were trying to be something they weren't, and succeeding. They weren't this. This wasn't Jethro Tull, literally. I've never seen anyone look so awkward as they do on the back cover. "Ok, stand really still, but look like you're running. Now look up in the air, like you're looking at something but you don't know what it is. Eddie, you're looking too far to the left. No, my left, your right. Ok, Martin, you look ridiculous. Get in the truck and look through the window. Um. Good enough. -click-

Tom, we are true kindred spirits!   I love "A" as well.....this album just had to happen for Tull. At the time I felt is was truly refreshing. Lovit.

Oh yes, the cover ...especially the back is hilariously contrived but it's the music that I was interested in.....so I just accepted the imagery as just a blip (on the screen!) and absorbed the great music.

I read somewhere years ago that Kerry Livgren did that as a joke sort of poking fun at the pretentiousness of musicians who took thought they were deeper than they were.  Really, if you know anything about the original guys in Kansas, they didn't take themselves seriously at all (except maybe Walsh towards the end).  The cheap tuxedos, overalls & flannel shirts, keyboard handstands, Viking helmuts and naked biker roadies dancing on stage were all part of the charm.  Midwest humor is kind of dry and hard to get if you're not from around there.

I did appreciate that side of Kansas. The first time I heard or saw them was on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. I loved how they were almost Yes-like, but at the same time like hicks from Kansas. Walsh also used to wear those dorky gym shorts. No silver capes to be found.

The best I ever heard about it was that someone wanted 90126 but after considerable heated debate Squire won 90125.

... don't forget the bland cover for the Solos. Talk was not a good cover. Nasty. Only Roger Dean should do art for Yes covers. That way, if you don't like what whoever is in the band have done, you'll get his art work.

A favourite (non prog one to hate) that Aphex Twin cover. And for song names - the oh-so ultra Spinal Tap ' Smells Like Teen Spirit'. When I first saw and heard that all them years ago I thought it (the title) was just a bad joke. No change.  BtTw just google worst ever album covers and see what turns up. Then think about starving people and could the money have gone to a better cause.

There aren't really that many good album covers really. Most ok to good, some brilliant and Roger Dean, many too many are... the worst.

I suppose the covers influence sales. This is why I've never... ever ... had the nerve to buy or hear Love Beach. I know I should rise above it, but someone might remember that I did that thing... Confused

I think you'll find that some of the worst album covers in rock history feature people dressed like Conan the Barbarian.

The worst thing is that it's for a band I really like, id est Dragontears, and possibly my favourite record of theirs.

hugs to you, Barbu
