Hi again! Just curious to know which albums are really the most popular among everyone from purchases alone. Multiple votes are obviously allowed for this and if you aren't going to take the time to vote for all of them, please don't just vote for a few so that we get a reliable answer. And also, just be honest please Smile Thanks!

Also, if you have time, state how many you own.

I own 20/25: missing Anglagard, Banco, Steve Wilson, Peter Hammill, and Moonmadness Smile

Thanks for any feedback! Big smile

Good idea for a poll, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I have 11/25 although 6 are recent purchases based on recommendations in another thread. The other 5 were the VDGG & KC albums.

I have 24 of these. Miles Davis is the missing one.

13/25

I don't own either Camel album on this list, though I do quite enjoy both. I'd say the one I am most embarassed about is "Selling England by the Pound". That's probably my favorite album that I don't actually own.Cry

I've heard every one at some point but the only ones I have never owned a copy of were: Hybris, Per un Amico, Moonmadness, Si on avait..., The Raven... and Io sono nato libero.

I have 12. There are some albums here that I cannot get into, such as Selling England, Moving Pictures and Hemispheres.

I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

17 out of the 25, including the top 9. I do not have anything by Van Der Graaf Generator, Peter Hammill, Harmonium, Anglagard, Wilson, or the RPI bands listed. I am not sure whether I only voted once for each - it was easy for me to lose count.

I have 18/25. Aside from Animals, I have all of the top 10. My brother has it and I've heard it, but that's not technically in my possession.

I'm also missing the PFM, Harmonium, Steven Wilson, and Miles Davis album, along with both of the ones by Camel.

It's a pity The Mountain fell off the top 25 today... I hope it gets put back soon.

I have owned all but the ones by Peter Hamill, Miles Davis and Banco.

However, I had to thin my colossal collection out so the KC and VDGG ones went because I really didn't like them any more.

Davis is here for a reason, he has a few clear fusion albums, Kind Of Blue is definitely not one of them as incredible as it is.

I went back and read the previous Miles Davis prog debate threads so there's no point in rehashing old arguments.  It just seems bizarre to me that "Kind of Blue" is rated as "Essential: A Masterpiece of Progressive Rock Music" when even it's fans say it's not prog.  Whatever Ermm

Yeah...The Davis thing is a mystery on why he's considered prog since he's jazz all the way, but then there are many entries here on PA that  are odd.

btw.....how is it decided what genre a band is placed in? is it a committee vote or does just one person who specializes in that genre make the call?

The teams put a lot of effort checking and adding bands every day FOR FREE.

Almost all the bands that the Symphonic Team has added in the last years have a thread about them in an open section of the forum.

If you haven't found the threads, is because you haven't searched for them...ALL THE TEAMS HAVE A SIMILAR WORKING SYSTEM

We used to have a thread where we informed about every band added, but only 2 or 3 members outside the collaborators cared about, so we decided it was a waste of our free and family time to create a thread nobody cared about.

Now each and every team has a thread in the collaborators section.

Only 11 out of 25. I don't buy music anymore, I just stream it.  I bought those 11 when I was younger, before I heard of KC, GG, VDGG, Camel etc. I live in Kentucky in the United States, and in the 80s it was hard to discover anything like prog. I was the only one I knew who listened to music like this and that was because I would discover it by accident at the local record store. For instance, I picked up albums by Kate Bush, Marillion, and Yes because I liked the covers and they were cheap--they had a notch cut out of the covers to indicate they were discounted because nobody in America knew who they were.  And I bought my first Pink Floyd purchase "A Nice Pair"--their first two albums in one package--because I was a teenager, and there was a fresh pair of tits on the cover.  Needless to say, I was clueless as to the incredible explosion of creativity that lie inside of those humble discounted packages. It kind of made me ashamed of American musical tastes, at least for awhile.
