Same as the last poll, but which of these is the last great Genesis album in your opinion?

Mine personally is Duke. Always loved it, and just about gets a 5-star rating from me Smile (the only Post-Gabriel album to get one).

As always, thanks for any feedback Big smile

Woops I meant to put ABACAB oh well.  I think Genesis is pretty good but a lackluster B side keeping it from being great.

...And Then There Were Three...

It seems like after this album Genesis left their classic-era melodism, so it was the last their LP I found enjoyable. Since 'Duke' they took a completely different approach and it sounds plainly boring to me.

Duke, though I doubted about Abacab.
I like Abacab, but maybe "great" is too big a word.

I would almost go with this, as s/t is solid, but I'm a bit pickier and will say it's the last good album. Invisible Touch is ok with good moments.

The last great one is A Trick of the Tail.

If you're going to apply the standard of greatness, it has to be Wind and Wuthering for me.  After Hackett left all hope was lost.   Not that I don't like Three or Duke or even Abacab for that matter.  I think they are good albums but not great albums.  Big smile  The remainders just make me sad.... Cry

For me A Trick Of The Tale was the last great one, but the self titled one was the last really good one.

It has to be Duke.  They kept the prog aspect with a whole new sound that just clicked.
The Self-titled album could have been it for me if not for one or two songs.

And then there were three.

I think this album qualifies as great, in fact burning rope might be my favorite Genesis song apart from Firth and Supper.

Duke - despite a couple of dodgy moments.

The greatest Genesis albums of all times are Foxtrot, Selling England..., The Lamb Lies on Broadway.

The LAST greatest album are Wind & Whutering and ... And thEN tHERE wERE tHREE.

Outside prog rock, speaking of "plain" pop-rock, a very good album by Genesis is We Can'T Dance.

Callig All Stations is too dark, not very digestible, very near to industrial rock...

Genesis were ALWAYS great during Peter Gabriel's era, and they stayed accettable till Hackett left the group. Afterwards, you can talk no more about "a progressive rock band", they became in fact poppy.

He somehow always finds a picture with a duck in it, that's relevant to the thread at hand..  It's like a special talent he has.

This is a very good reflexion, and I agree completely.

For me is We can't dance. I like CAS, and Banks and Rutherford always were the Genesis musical engine, but without the arrengers masters, simply they couldn't do it. And Collins really knows how to take some Banks or Rutherford creation and transforms it in something completely superior. When the guy was gone...

Very well applied that photo posted by hellogoodbye!

For me the duck represents the success of Collins as the new leader of the band (Genesis last phase), somewhat like an actor that got famous for his performance at Broadway at the time "the lamb lies down on Broadway"(the lamb being the Genesis first phase), but soon after "the lamb dies down on Broadway" and "the duck goes to Hollywood"...

I'm not sure if I wanna call We Can't Dance great(it is a pretty superb album to be sure), but I can definitely say Duke

They never stopped producing great albums. But if you want the last great PROG album then that would be Wind & Wuthering hands down.

Genesis Wind And Wuthering album cover
The last great Genesis album.....but not the last good Genesis album. Wink
