He certainly isn't for everybody. Though it's that harshness that I love about his music. I'd recommend something liter and more palatable but I'm not sure that exists within the Brotzmann discog.

COLDPLAY - 'Viva La Vida' (only because I bought the vinyl edition for my 13 year-old niece and she insisted I give it a spin) - and so far, 2 or 3 tracks are pretty decent from a prog perspective......
......and I'm very happy my niece respects vinyl LP's......

Nothing quite like that I'm afraid. Or am happy to report perhaps.

Well...you know what you are in for, so I won't hold back.

Path one (not recommended, although o did do this): Go for the all out stuff first...Machine Gun, Nipples, More Nipples, For Adolphe Sax.

Path two: Some of the Chicago Tentet stuff is actually pretty varied for the amount of stuff that is present in the group. I'd say the albums Signs, Images, Broken English, and Be Night, Music all contain a good amount of more accessible stuff (although it must be said that I haven't been takem by Be Night, Music at this time).

He is in a group call Hairy Bones that has some excellent electronic/spacey trumpet excursions and a high octane rhythm section. At times it almost feels like Brotzmann is the odd one out and doesn't seem as 'hell bent' as he is on other releases. (not to imply an easy listen of course) They have two albums...Hairy Bones and Snakelust (which is on youtube in full)

A similar band (same trumpeter [T. Kando], with Hamid Drake and William Parker) is called Die Like A Dog. It's a Albert Ayler "tribute band"...so not surprisingly it can get to be heavy lifting. I'd recommend Little Birds Have Fast Hearts Vol 1 & 2 or Aoyama Crows to start with.

Finally, he was in a band called Last Exit with Sonny Sharrock on guitar, Bill Laswell on bass, and RS Jackson on drums. Brotzmann sometimes takes a back seat here, and at pther times is close to playing restrained. I'd recommend Iron Path as the album (probably the most welcoming of any of their albums that I've heard)

Hopefully one of these bands/albums can tickle your fancy!

It's much more chambery and folky, without the zaniness, large scale, energy, or playful elements that are present in abundance in their first three albums. It's not bad, and very pleasant to listen to, but not something that I'll spend money on.

This is my first post on this website forum, I look forward to many future discussions with other members. To answer the question at hand right now I'm listening to Diamanda Galas with John Paul Jones-The Sporting Life. I've just started listening to Ms. Galas less than a month ago but of the two albums that I own this is by far my favorite. Her vocals are definitely pretty much the definition of an acquired taste, but once the shock wears off (Mass Plague just about floored me on my first listen) one is treated to some very original and manic yet beautiful music. I intend to give her other albums a try. Any suggestions on where to go next will be much appreciated.

Skipping Hummer.  I couldn't handle another hour of boring ambient noise.

Presents: Ziltoid the Omniscient

I didn't care for this one all that much when I first heard it.  Hopefully my opinion will change since so many really like this one.

I haven't heard that one.  I am pretty much limited to a Best of Love compilation CD for my exposure to Love.

Devin Townsend - Ki.  Only my second listen to this album, which seems to be the usual for the albums that I have from him.  It seems as though I downloaded them, listened to them once, and never bothered to give them another listen until now.
